Acidities of pentasil zeolites were measured and correlated with aluminum content using the following methods: (1) Acid-base indicator method, (2) NH3-TPD spectra, (3) GC pulse adsorption of pyridine and 4-methylquinoline, and (4) FTIR spectroscopy of adsorbed pyridine.

By controlling the acidity of pentasil zeolites, we have succeeded in obtaining high catalytic performance both in paraselective dealkylation of cymenes and in vapor-phase Beckmann rearrangement of cyclohexanone oxime to ?-caprolactam. In the dealkylation, moderate acidity of Li-ZSM-5 was the key to avoid side reactions while keeping a high conversion of cymenes. In the Beckmann rearrangement, neutrality and crystallinity of the pentasil zeolite were keys to obtain a high lactam selectivity, and a high lactam selectivity of 95% was attained by the surface treatment with chlorotrimethylsilane. The active sites were elucidated to be neutral silanols on the external surface of zeolite.  相似文献

The antibacterial action of thymol and cymene on two Bacillus cereus strains (INRA-AVTZ415 and INRA-AVZ421) was studied. Thymol and cymene alone showed higher antibacterial effect on the growth of B. cereus in BHI at 30 °C, both in lag and in exponential growth phases, with increasing added concentrations. However, the two strains tested showed different sensitivity to these natural compounds. When thymol and cymene were applied simultaneously, it resulted in a greater antibacterial effect than when the compounds were applied separately. The synergistic behaviour of both compounds was also shown for lag phase B. cereus INRA-AVZ421 cells in food substrates (carrot juice, chicken soup and pumpkin cream) at 30 °C, though a clear food-related effect was observed. This study indicates the potential use of thymol and cymene applied simultaneously for preservation of minimally processed foods.  相似文献

Carvacrol and cymene, phenolic compounds naturally present in the essential oil of oregano and thyme, were examined for their antimicrobial activity against Vibrio cholerae (ATCC 14033, VC1, and VC7) inoculated in carrot juice. Carvacrol exhibited a dose dependent inhibitory effect on the bacteria. Although cymene did not have antimicrobial activity against the bacteria, it enhanced the inhibitory ability of carvacrol. At 25 °C, the lowest concentrations of carvacrol and cymene required for zero detectable viable count varied depending on bacterial strains; 5 and 5 ppm, respectively, for VC7; 5 and 7.5 ppm, respectively, for VC1; and 7.5 and 7.5 ppm, respectively, for ATCC 14033. This study also examined several factors influencing the antimicrobial activity of carvacrol and cymene against V. cholerae ATCC 14033, including temperature, bacterial cell number, and food substrate. Carvacrol and cymene inhibited the bacterium in carrot juice at 25 °C more efficiently than at 15 and 4 °C. The doses of both compounds required for zero detectable viable count increased as the number of the bacterial cells in the carrot juice increased. The fat content and the complexity of foods were shown to decrease the antimicrobial activity of the compounds.  相似文献

Selective formation of cymene by transalkylation reaction of toluene with cumene and 1,4-diisopropylbenzene is described. The effect of various reaction parameters on the activity and selectivity is studied over H-Beta and results are compared with H-Y and H-ZSM-12.
