Rehabilitation robotics: a review

This article reviews various selected literature on rehabilitation robotics. The literature was obtained mainly from journals and conference proceedings of the robotic, rehabilitative or biomedical engineering associations. It has been classified into three categories: rehabilitation robot systems, evaluation and key technologies. Commercially available robots, new projects, users' experiences and requirements, and fundamental research are introduced. A comprehensive list of references is provided.     

Quality assurance and product quality

Abstract

The basic quality assurance requirements need to be completed by means oriented towards the quality of products. In Cogema Logistics our approach is based on four principles: an integrated management system including quality, health, safety and environment; an organisation based on the responsibility of all actors, trust and transparency; a methodical approach to continuously improve the methods that are employed to achieve quality process management, corrective and preventive actions, self-assessments and various surveys; but at the same time strong procedures for controlling and monitoring all activities including technique and quality audits (external and internal), at source inspections and engineering activities inspections. This performance based approach is necessary to guarantee the effectiveness of the traditional formal quality assurance means.     

IFHTSE Global 21: Heat treatment and surface engineering in the twenty-first century Part 8 – Training in heat treatment and surface engineering

Abstract

It is well known that metallurgists, materials scientists and engineers all have some training in heat treatment and surface engineering (thermal processing) as an intrinsic part of their courses, irrespective of the qualification to which the course leads. However, for those who are going to work in the thermal processing industry or have responsibility for that area of their business, it has to be acknowledged that the level of training is not in sufficient depth to allow them to conduct the business in the best possible manner. In other words, additional training is required. How employees were trained some years ago is compared with the training that is available today, and measures to ensure that sufficient appropriately trained people are available to the industry in the future are proposed. Although the main thrust of this paper will be applicable to all businesses carrying out thermal processing, it is very much based on the author's experience of working for Bodycote, a major thermal processing service provider, for the past 31 years. My many discussions in both Europe and the USA with both colleagues and educators have led me to believe that the UK experience is far from unique.     

Broadening student experience in mental hygiene and abnormal psychology.
