The 3D structure electromagnetic computation presents several difficulties related to the volume mesh. In fact, the entire volume space must be taken into account even the smallest details. In this article, we propose a formulation based on the reciprocity theorem combined with the generalized equivalent circuit method to model a planar 3D structure with both coaxial and planar excitation. The major advantage of this formulation is the fact to reduce the computational volume into 2D ones in the discontinuity plane. In addition, we focused on the calculation of the discontinuity between the excitation source and the planar structure to determine the exact behavior of the electric coaxial excitation model. The obtained current density, electric field distributions, and the input impedance are presented and discussed in the following sections. Treated was an anti-plane crack perpendicular to the interface of an exponential-type FGM strip bonded to another linear-type
FGM substrate with infinite thickness. Through Fourier integral transform, the problem was reduced as a Cauchy singular integral
equation, which was further solved numerically by the Lobatto–Chebyshev collocation method. Based on the numerical solution,
the effects of the geometrical and physical parameters on the stress intensity factor (SIF) were analyzed and the following
conclusions were obtained: (a) A notable discrepancy between the interface-perpendicular crack and the interfacial one is
that, to reduce the weak-discontinuity of interface or to make the interface micro-discontinuous will not necessarily decrease
the SIF of the former, but will surely decrease that of the latter. (b) When a crack tip is situated very near to the interface
(or free surface), its SIF will be high and totally dominated by the interface (or free surface). (c) To increase the stiffness
of the FGM on one side of the interface is beneficial to preventing the crack on the other side from growing toward the interface.

Mine overburden dumps have posed significant safety issues in the operations of various unit operations of open pit min-ing especially the external dumps. The external dumps are composed of a mixture of fragmented rocks and loose soil. Their charac-teristic is comparable to heavily discontinuous solid mass. The conventional approach of limit equilibrium methods provide safety factors for the slope but nothing about the stress-strain characteristics of the large dump mass. The designs of dump location and their respective geometry are integrated for the know-how of the stability characteristics of these dumps. The discrete element method uses a circular disk to represent the granular solid mass and their interactions are described by the Newton's third law of motion. The displacement is described by the sliding of the circular disk. This work is focused on the modeling efficiency of the discrete element methods to represent the behaviour of mine dump masses with the specified joint plane for the limit equilibrium method. The advantage of the work lies on the ease of information retrieval at any point at the dump mass concerning the stress and strain histories, displacement, failures etc. which when integrated produces a better understanding of the stability of the dump masses. 相似文献

The Sanaga River is one of Sub‐Saharan Africa's largest and greatly regulated rivers. Available flow data for this hydrosystem largely cover the pre‐ and post‐regulation periods. From comparisons between unregulated (hypothetical) and observed scenarios, it has been possible to separate and to quantify hydro‐climatic (groundwater + rainfall) change effects from anthropogenic impacts (especially dam‐related alterations). To appreciate shifts in the river regime, discontinuity detection tests and the IHA model were applied to discharge data series reflecting average and extreme flow conditions, respectively. Results obtained principally from the Hubert segmentation method reveal that a major discontinuity occurred in 1970–1971 separating a surplus phase between 1945–1946 and 1969–1970, and a deficient and much contrasted one, from 1971/1972. This implies that the Sanaga catchment is dominantly affected by hydro‐climatic changes. However, wide land cover/land use changes experienced here since 1988 have resulted in an increase in surface runoff. Additional quickflows linked to these changes may have partly compensated for the substantial decline in the dry season rainfall and groundwater inputs observed from this date. Although at the monthly scale, dam‐related impacts on average flows increase with stage of regulation, the seasonal variability of the river regime remains generally unaffected. A comparison of the IHA statistics, calculated from unregulated and observed streamflow data, show that hydrologic shifts occurring in maximum and minimum discharges are mostly significant from 1971/1972 and are mainly due to the action of dams. Minimum flows appear, however, widely impacted, thus reflecting the prime objective assigned to the existing reservoirs, constructed to supplement flows for hydroelectricity production during the dry season. This note concerns with stress intensity factors of cracks emanating from a square hole in rectangular plate under biaxial loads by means of the boundary element method which consists of the non-singular displacement discontinuity element presented by Crouch and Starfied and the crack tip displacement discontinuity elements proposed by the author. In the boundary element implementation the left or the right crack tip displacement discontinuity element is placed locally at corresponding left or right crack tip on top of the constant displacement discontinuity elements that cover the entire crack surface and the other boundary. The present numerical results illustrate that the present approach is very effective and accurate for calculating stress intensity factors of complicated cracks in a finite plate and can reveal the effect of the biaxial load and the cracked body geometry on stress intensity factors. 相似文献

In this work, we present a discrete beam lattice model with embedded discontinuities capable of simulating rock failure as a result of propagating cracks through rock mass. The developed model is a two‐dimensional (plane strain) microscale representation of rocks as a two‐phase heterogeneous material. Phase I is chosen for intact rock part, while phase II stands for pre‐existing microcracks and other defects. The proposed model relies on Timoshenko beam elements enhanced with additional kinematics to describe localized failure mechanisms. The model can properly take into account the fracture process zone with pre‐existing microcracks coalescence, along with localized failure modes, mode I of tensile opening and mode II of shear sliding. Furthermore, we give the very detailed presentation for two different approaches to capturing the evolution of modes I and II, and their interaction and combination. The first approach is to deal with modes I and II separately, where mode II can be activated but compression force may still be transferred through rock mass which is not yet completely damaged. The second approach is to represent both modes I and II being activated simultaneously at a point where complete failure is reached. A novel numerical procedure for dealing with two modes failure within framework of method of incompatible modes is presented in detail and validated by a set of numerical examples.
