The potential of ozone for disinfection of ships’ ballast water was investigated using Bacillus subtilis spores as an indicator. The effects of pH, presence of iron, and bacterial strain on disinfection efficacy in seawater, under simulated ballast conditions, were investigated. Ozone dosages of 9 mg/L (pH 7) and 14 mg/L (pH 8.2) and 24 h contact achieved a 4-log inactivation with the various oxidant residuals formed. Iron surface at a ratio to water of 9 m2/m3 impaired the oxidant residuals and the disinfection of spores. Different strains of B. subtilis resulted in different CT values. Ozone does not seem to be a good choice for the control of spore-forming organisms in ballast water, but may be suitable for the control of other species.  相似文献

The aggregate in the ballast layer of the railway track structure degrades due to the splitting of single particles and the abrasion of the angular corners, resulting in a ballast course comprised of degraded aggregate with a lower drainage potential. In the present study, the hydraulic conductivity of clean, degraded and clay-fouled degraded ballast specimens was evaluated considering the initial particle size distribution of aggregate and the degradation mechanism to investigate the permeability of ballast fouled by both internal and external factors. First, degraded ballast aggregate was generated by using a large-scale impact loading testing apparatus. Then, a large-scale constant head permeability test was performed to estimate the hydraulic conductivity of degraded ballast aggregate contaminated with clay. Based on the obtained results, the flow regime through extremely degraded ballast remained between a completely turbulent regime (observed in the case of clean ballast) and a laminar flow regime. Darcy’s law was shown to be valid for degraded aggregate samples contaminated with clay. While the degradation of the aggregate had the expected effect of reducing hydraulic conductivity, the abrasion of asperities was shown to have an even greater impact on hydraulic conductivity. Also, the further degradation of aggregate under impact loading was shown to accelerate the reduction in the permeability of clay-fouled degraded ballast to an unacceptable extent.  相似文献

Understanding the complex mechanisms of stress transfer and strain accumulation in layers of track substructure under repeated wheel loading is essential to predict the desirable track maintenance cycle as well as the design of the new track. Various finite element and analytical techniques have been developed in the past to understand the behavior of composite track layers subjected to repeated wheel loads. The mechanical behavior of ballast is influenced by several factors, including the track confining pressure, type of aggregates, and the number of loading cycles. A field trial was conducted on an instrumented track at Bulli, New South Wales, Australia, with the specific aims of studying the benefits of a geocomposite installed at the ballast-capping interface, and to evaluate the performance of moderately graded recycled ballast in comparison to traditionally very uniform fresh ballast. It was found that recycled ballast can be effectively reused if reinforced with a geocomposite. It was also found that geocomposite can effectively reduce vertical and lateral strains of the ballast with obvious implications for improved track stability and reduced maintenance costs.  相似文献

从器件I-V特性的角度,表征了射频功率异质结双极晶体管(HBT)的自加热效应。研究了器件热阻、工作电压、电流增益、发射结价带不连续性(ΔEV)等诸多因素对器件I-V特性的影响。进而研究了为补偿自加热效应所加镇流电阻对热稳定性的改善情况,给出了器件热稳定所需最小镇流电阻(REmin)与这些因素的关系。结果表明,HBT的REmin要小于同质结双极晶体管(BJT)的REmin,因此,射频功率HBT将有更大的输出功率、功率增益和功率附加效率(PAE)。  相似文献

The Eurasian round goby (Neogobius melanostomus) invaded the freshwater North American Great Lakes in ~ 1990 via accidental introduction from ballast water discharge. Its genotypes in the Great Lakes traced to estuaries in the northern Black Sea, where the round goby flourishes in a variety of salinities to 22 parts per thousand (ppt). To prevent further introductions, U.S. and Canadian Coast Guard regulations now require that vessels exchange ballast water at sea before entering the Great Lakes. Since salinity tolerance of the invasive round goby population is poorly understood, we tested 230 laboratory-acclimated fish in three experimental scenarios: (1) rapid salinity increases (0–40 ppt), simulating ballast water exchange, (2) step-wise salinity increases, as during estuarine tidal fluxes or migration from fresh to saltwater, and (3) long-term survivorship and growth (to 4 months) at acclimated salinities. Almost all gobies survived experiments at 0–20 ppt, whereas none survived ≥ 30 ppt, and at 25 ppt only 15% withstood rapid changes and 30% survived step-wise increases. Ventilation frequencies were lowest at 10–15 ppt in step-wise experiments, in conditions that were near isotonic with fish internal plasma concentrations, reflecting lower energy expenditure for osmoregulation. Growth rates appeared greatest at 5–10 ppt, congruent with the larger sizes reached by gobies in Eurasian brackish waters. Thus, we predict that the Great Lakes round goby would thrive in brackish water estuaries along North American coasts, if introduced. However, oceanic salinities appear fatal to the invasive round goby, which likely cannot withstand complete seawater ballast exchanges or oceanic habitats.  相似文献

Ship's ballast waters transport large numbers of organisms which may become invasive in coastal regions. One option to address this problem is the use of biocides as ballast water treatment (BWT). Efficacy and environmental acceptability of three commercial active substances (the BWT biocides Peraclean® Ocean and Seakleen®, and alkylamine-based biocide Mexel® 432/336) were tested against three bacteria species, two vegetative microalgae and one zooplanktonic larva, in 10 and 30 Practical Salinity Unit (PSU) waters. In both salinities, PeraClean® Ocean was the most effective biocide against bacteria causing > 90% mortality at 20 mg/l, compared with 50 mg/l for Mexel® 432/336 and > 500 mg/l for Seakleen®. Regarding zooplankton, Seakleen® was the most effective chemical causing 90% mortality in 24 h at concentrations < 6 mg/l (LC9024 h) in both salinities, compared with 23 and 26 mg/l for Mexel® 432/336 and 370 and 480 mg/l for PeraClean® Ocean in 10 and 30 PSU, respectively. Similar pattern of efficacy was obtained for microalgae in 30 PSU: effective concentrations inducing 50% growth inhibition in 4 days were ≤ 1.6 mg/l for Seakleen®, ≤ 10.1 mg/l for Mexel® 432/336 and ≤ 30.9 mg/l for PeraClean® Ocean. Our work highlighted that treated waters displayed residual toxicity after 24 h still inducing mortality depending on the organism and biocide. However Mexel® 432/336 is the only biocide which had no impact on oyster larvae development at effective concentration. Altogether our data showed that Mexel® 432/336 was the only biocide displaying a broad spectrum efficacy in concentrations < 50 mg/l and not toxic for oyster larvae development at this concentration. However residual toxicity of treated waters for any organism should be taken into account in BWT systems utilising biocides.  相似文献

Current UN International Maritime Organization legislation mandates the phased introduction of ballast water treatment technologies capable of complying with rigorous standards related to removal of waterborne organisms. Doubts concerning mechanical treatments at very high ballasting rates have renewed interest in chemical treatment for very large vessels. High removal rates for biota require broad spectrum biocides that are safe to transport and handle and pose no corrosion problems for ships' structure. The current study focuses on the naphthoquinone group of compounds and extends a previously reported set of screening bioassays with an investigation of the toxicity of four naphthoquinones to select protists and prokaryotes, representative of typical ballast water organisms. Vegetative dinoflagellate cysts exposed to 2.0 mg/L of the naphthoquinones juglone, plumbagin, menadione and naphthazarin showed varying degrees of chloroplast destruction, with menadione demonstrating the most potency. Laboratory and mesocosm exposures of various phytoplankton genera to menadione showed toxicity at 1.0 mg/L. Juglone demonstrated the most bactericidal activity as judged by a Deltatox assay (Vibrio fischeri) and by acridine orange counts of natural bacterial populations.  相似文献

In this paper new active only current-mode integrator and differentiator with electronically tunable time constants are described. They are composed of one operational amplifier (OA) and two operational transconductance amplifiers (OTAs), and are suitable for monolithic implementation either with CMOS or bipolar technologies. No realizability conditions are imposed for the proposed circuits and all of the active sensitivities are low. The performances of the circuits are demonstrated on the PSPICE platform.  相似文献
