医学成像仪器产生12位的体数据,然而普通显示器只支持8位的灰度图。如果使用普通显示器来显示医学图像,显卡会自动将这些12位数据转化成8位数据,这就造成了数据动态范围被压缩。解决这一问题,在2D领域通常使用昂贵的医学专用灰阶显示器。在3D领域却限制了医生使用三维可视化软件。尝试将一些在2D图像处理中使用的图像增强技术如加权平均模板,不同程度曝光等来实现色调映射算法等应用到三维体数据的显示当中,通过种种复杂的数据变换,使得在普通显示器上显示的8位灰度图呈现出更高的动态范围,得到更为生动、更加丰富的显示效果。这种技术也可以实现任意位数的转化,使得12位显示器的显示效果也可以得到增强。

Mixing tone mapping operators on the GPU by differential zone mapping based on psychophysical experiments

In this paper, we present a new technique for displaying High Dynamic Range (HDR) images on Low Dynamic Range (LDR) displays in an efficient way on the GPU. The described process has three stages. First, the input image is segmented into luminance zones. Second, the tone mapping operator (TMO) that performs better in each zone is automatically selected. Finally, the resulting tone mapping (TM) outputs for each zone are merged, generating the final LDR output image. To establish the TMO that performs better in each luminance zone we conducted a preliminary psychophysical experiment using a set of HDR images and six different TMOs. We validated our composite technique on several (new) HDR images and conducted a further psychophysical experiment, using an HDR display as the reference that establishes the advantages of our hybrid three-stage approach over a traditional individual TMO. Finally, we present a GPU version, which is perceptually equal to the standard version but with much improved computational performance.     

Adaptive contrast enhancement using edge-based lighting condition estimation

This paper proposes a new approach to image contrast enhancement that improves the perceptual visual quality by considering the lighting condition and minimizing the structural distortion to a tolerable level. The proposed method consists of the following two major steps: lighting condition estimation and contrast enhancement processes. In the first step, the proposed method estimates the lighting condition by calculating the dynamic range along the edges of the image. In the second step, the method adaptively adjusts the luminance by considering both the estimated lighting condition and the order of luminance levels in order to improve the perceptual visual quality. In addition, the method properly reduces the structural distortion. Experimental results show that the proposed method improved the perceptual visual quality of various images by increasing the average structural fidelity, enhancement performance measure, entropy, and tone-mapped image quality index by up to 11%, 133%, 16%, and 11%, respectively, compared to the benchmark methods.

Predictions of Munsell values with the same perceived lightness at any specified chroma irrespective of hues—Determination of any tonal colors

Simple formulas are proposed for predicting the Munsell value of colors with the same tone (the same values for whiteness‐blackness, perceived lightness, and chroma irrespective of hue). The formulas can be used for any tone. In other words, the method can determine the Munsell value with the same perceived lightness at any specified chroma irrespective of hue. The chromatic strength (CS) function is only used for the derivations. The formulas are very simple, and can be used not only in the colorimetry but also in the color design field. The concept described in this study is that a common CS function can be used for transforming each of the three color attributes (hue, lightness, and chroma) from their uniform color space metric to their corresponding color appearance space attribute. © 2010 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
