Analytical pyrolysis as a tool for the study of plastic coals

The technique of analytical pyrolysis has been used to characterize 40 similar mid-rank western Kentucky coals of widely differing ASTM Gieseler plasticity. Certain pyrolysis/g.c. variables were shown to correlate well with both ASTM Gieseler and isothermal plasticity. Highly plastic coals were shown to exhibit certain characteristic peaks in the 450 °C pyrogram which were absent in the pyrogram of the non-plastic coals. Two coals, representing the two extremes in plasticity, were selected for further study. After extraction with solvents such as DMF the characteristic peaks were absent in the 450 °C pyrogram of the extraction residue of the highly plastic coal. These peaks were also shown to decrease with increasing severity of air oxidation of the plastic coal. This technique appears to be a useful tool for the analysis of mid-rank plastic coals and supports the view that the substances contained in the bitumen fraction of these coals are involved in the development of the plastic state.

One‐step production of 2,3‐butanediol from starch by secretory over‐expression of amylase in Klebsiella pneumoniae

BACKGROUND: 2,3‐Butanediol (2,3‐BD) is a valuable chemical that can be biosynthesized from many kinds of substrates. For commercial biological production of 2,3‐BD, it is desirable to use cheap substrate without pretreatment, such as starch. However, there have been few reports on the production of 2,3‐BD directly from starch. RESULTS: In this work, gene malS coding for α‐amylase (EC 3.2.1.1) precursor was inserted into plasmid pUC18K, and secretory over‐expression of α‐amylase was achieved by engineered Klebsiella pneumoniae. The extracellular recombinant amylase accelerated the hydrolyzation of starch, and one‐step production of 2,3‐BD from starch was carried out by engineered K. pneumoniae. A 2,3‐BD concentration of 3.8 g L^?1 and yield of 0.19 g 2,3‐BD g^?1 starch were obtained after 24 h fermentation. CONCLUSION: The one‐step production of 2,3‐BD from starch was achieved by secretory over‐expression of amylase in K. pneumoniae. This would simplify the process and reduce the production cost considerably by enabling use of starch with minimal pretreatment. Copyright © 2008 Society of Chemical Industry     

Oil yield and compressibility modeling during microscale expression: Criteria for linseed breeding

Seven linseed varieties were harvested at seven times before complete maturity. Microscale oilseed expressions were subsequently carried out on it. A pressure of 10 MPa was applied for 1 h under uniaxial stress. The results were characterized in terms of oil, water and mucilage content, harvest date and oil yield. The piston displacement versus time (creep curves) was described by a four‐Kelvin‐Voigt elements viscoelastic model. Parameters were derived from the model, such as the mechanical properties of seeds (compressibility moduli), showing that the viscoelastic model fits well the experimental data (R² ≈ 0.999). The modeling parameters were combined with some biochemical data in order to predict the kinetics of oil extraction.

Incremental join view maintenance on distributed log-structured storage

Modern database systems desperate for the ability to support highly scalable transactions and efficient queries simultaneously for real-time applications. One solution is to utilize query optimization techniques on the on-line transaction processing (OLTP) systems. The materialized view is considered as a panacea to decrease query latency. However, it also involves the significant cost of maintenance which trades away transaction performance. In this paper, we examine the design space and conclude several design features for the implementation of a view on a distributed log-structured merge-tree (LSMtree), which is a well-known structure for improving data write performance. As a result, we develop two incremental view maintenance (IVM) approaches on LSM-tree. One avoids join computation in view maintenance transactions. Another with two optimizations is proposed to decouple the view maintenance with the transaction process. Under the asynchronous update, we also provide consistency queries for views. Experiments on TPC-H benchmark show our methods achieve better performance than straightforward methods on different workloads.     

论残疾人非制度化利益表达

残疾人通常根据其政治、经济、精神和社会保障等利益需要进行利益表达。当残疾人的利益表达机制不完善、缺乏利益表达意识、社会利益输出不平衡等因素造成制度化利益表达受阻,残疾人只能无奈地选择非常规的、非制度化利益表达方式。通过健全残疾人社会保障服务体系、保证残疾人制度化利益表达渠道畅通、引导残疾人合理运用网络新媒体进行利益表达,是规避由非制度化利益表达造成的社会不和谐因子的有效途径。     

基于解析解的四阶PDE曲面裁剪方法

该文提出了一种可以广泛应用于四阶PDE曲面的裁剪方法。利用PDE的参数域内的曲线在曲面上投影,得到所求裁剪曲面的边界曲线,然后通过边界曲线的导矢与曲面在边界曲线处的法向量得到边界曲线处的跨界导矢,最后以求得的裁剪曲面的边界曲线以及裁剪曲面在边界曲线处的跨界导矢为PDE曲面的边界条件,用四阶的PDE曲面方程求得PDE裁剪曲面。
