Alternatives for improving energy security in Cape Verde

The lack of consensus on the meaning of energy security and how it should be measured hinders the evaluation of alternatives for improving the Cape Verdean energy sector. The objective of the paper is to develop an energy security index adjusted to the country's context. The methods used are the multi-criteria analysis and the Delphi survey. Different alternatives to improve energy security are assessed: electrically interconnect Cape Verde's islands, increase the share of renewable energy, and a combination of the previous alternatives. The results of our analysis indicate that increasing renewable energy is the optimal alternative for Cape Verde.     

Red-shift and improved afterglow of Sr3Al2-xBxO5Cl2:Eu2+, Dy3+ phosphors via a cation substitution strategy

Sr₃Al_2-xB_xO₅Cl₂:Eu²⁺, Dy³⁺ (x = 0, 0.2, 0.4) long persistent phosphors were prepared via solid-state process. The pristine Sr₃Al₂O₅Cl₂:Eu²⁺, Dy³⁺ phosphor exhibits orange/red broad band emission around 609 nm, which can be attributed to the electric radiation transitions 4f⁶5 d¹→4f⁷ of Eu²⁺. Upon the same excitation, the B³⁺-doped Sr₃Al_2-xB_xO₅Cl₂:Eu²⁺, Dy³⁺ phosphors display red-shift from 609 nm to 625 nm with increasing B³⁺ concentrations. The XRD patterns show that Al³⁺ can be replaced by B³⁺ in the host lattice at the tetrahedral site, which causes lattice contraction and crystal field enhancement, and thereafter achieves the red-shift on the emission spectrum. The XPS investigation provides direct evidence of the dominant 2-valent europium in the phosphor, which can be ascribed for the broad band emission of the prepared phosphors. The afterglow of all phosphors show standard double exponential decay behavior, and the afterglow of Sr₃Al₂O₅Cl₂:Eu²⁺, Dy³⁺is rather weak, while the sample co-doped with B³⁺shows longer and stronger afterglow, as confirmed after the curve simulation. The analysis of thermally stimulated luminescence showed that, when B³⁺ is introduced, a much deeper trap is created, and the density of the electron trap is also significantly increased. As a result, B³⁺ ions caused redshift and enhanced afterglow for the Sr₃Al_2-xB_xO₅Cl₂:Eu²⁺, Dy³⁺ phosphor.

Review of Alterations of Consciousness: An Empirical Analysis for Social Scientists.

Reviews the book by Baruss (see record 2003-02669-000), which reviews the experimental and phenomenological research on alterations of consciousness, ranging from sleep and dreaming to mystical and near-death experience. The reviewer suggests there is a clear agenda announced by the book's subtitle, "An Empirical Analysis for Social Scientists." In the view of Baruss, all too often in states of consciousness research a preoccupation with theory has kept investigators from full engagement with the actual data. The book provides readable and at times appropriately controversial discussions of empirical literature on dreaming and lucid dreams, daydreaming and fantasy proneness, hypnosis, dissociative identity disorder, shamanism and possession states, psychedelic drug research, parapsychology, trance-chanelling and mediumship, the alien abduction syndrome, classical mystical experience, out-of-body and near-death experiences, and recent attempts by MacDonald and others to assess individual differences in spirituality through multifactor questionnaires. However, the reviewer believes that the breadth of coverage of both recent and past research is too often highly selective, and that the author's rejection of theory is both questionable in itself and more illusion than reality. 吐哈盆地小草湖次凹发育多套烃源岩，油源条件好，油气资源丰富，油气勘探潜力巨大，中侏罗统发育三套储盖组合，凹陷内油气藏类型主要为侏罗系三间房组，七克台组的构造－岩性复合型和侏罗系西山窑组的深盆气藏，燕山运动末期是小草湖次凹一次重要的成藏期，古构造，古构造背景和构造－岩性复合型圈闭发育是小草湖次凹成藏主控因素，根据小草湖次凹成藏主控因素评价和优选有利区带，勘探工作取得了良好效果。     

Electronic properties of Fibonacci quasi-periodic heterostructures

We study the electronic states of different GaAs-AlAs Fibonacci quasi-perodic heterostructures grown along the (001) direction. We employ an empirical tight-binding Hamiltonian including spin-orbit coupling together with the surface Green function matching method. We present results for the eighth Fibonacci generation formed from different building blocks. We compare these results with those of the constituent quantum wells and with those of heterostructures containing the same number of GaAs and AlAs slabs after periodic repetition of the building blocks. No Fibonacci spectrum is found in the energy regions near the conduction and valence band edges of GaAs. A selective localization of the local density of states in the GaAs layers is found for many electronic states.

提出了用复合栅控二极管新技术提取MOS/SOI器件界面陷阱沿沟道横向分布的原理,给出了具体的测试步骤和方法.在此基础上,对具有体接触的NMOS/SOI器件进行了具体的测试和分析,给出了不同的累积应力时间下的界面陷阱沿沟道方向的横向分布.结果表明:随累积应力时间的增加,不仅漏端边界的界面陷阱峰值上升,而且沿沟道方向,界面陷阱从漏端不断向源端增生.
