This paper considers a semiconductor assembly and test factory which is a three-segment-Constant Work-in-Process (CONWIP) system with overlapping machines. In the system, three types of carts circulate for meeting the physical requirements. The optimization problem in setting the suitable total Work-in-Process (WIP) level and the distribution in the three loops from the view of the trade-off between the throughput and the WIP level for the system is addressed. In the proposed model, the system is firstly modeled as a three-loop closed queue network and we propose an approximate method to evaluate the performance. The accuracy of the evaluation method was illustrated by numerical experiments, indicating that the method is fairly precise. Secondly, a Genetic Algorithm is designed to obtain near optimal results based on the performance evaluation. The semiconductor assembly and test system case as well as the application procedure were carried out in detail.  相似文献

Analytical models of multi-product manufacturing systems operating under CONWIP control are composed of closed queuing networks with synchronization stations. Under general assumptions, these queuing networks are hard to analyze exactly and therefore approximation methods must be used for performance evaluation. This research proposes a new approach based on parametric decomposition. Two-moment approximations are used to estimate the performance measures at individual stations. Subsequently, the traffic process parameters at the different stations are linked using stochastic transformation equations. The resulting set of non-linear equations is solved using an iterative algorithm to obtain estimates of key performance measures such as throughput, and mean queue lengths. Numerical studies indicate that the proposed method is computationally efficient and yields fairly accurate results when compared to simulation.  相似文献

The increase of a panel's size in thin film transistor – liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD), results in an increase in stock space and increased cost from work-in-process (WIP). This paper proposes a lean-pull strategy, combining buffers with CONWIP (CONstant work-in-process), which results in shared resources to a re-entrant process in TFT-LCD manufacturing. The buffer size and CONWIP levels are the decision variables and are solved by simulation optimisation. The proposed procedure is applied to a factory that manufactures TFT-LCD. The study shows that the proposed lean-pull strategy can reduce the cycle time and achieve a reduction of 34.57% in WIP. The automated material handling systems (AMHS) stocker utilisation can be reduced from 62.13% to 18.49% without additional investment or facilities. Sensitivity analysis indicates the maximum daily throughput will achieve over 10% improvement. The empirical results from this pilot study provide useful managerial insights for the production control of array manufacturing.  相似文献

We study a joint admission/inventory control problem for a manufacturing system producing one product to meet random demand. The system employs a constant work- in-process policy (CONWIP) whereby the total inventory of raw material and finished items is kept constant, and accepts orders only as long as the backlog is below a certain level. The objective is to determine the CONWIP and backlog levels that maximize the mean profit rate of the system. The system is modelled as a single server with a finite queue. It turns out that the mean profit rate is either concave or decreasing in one control parameter and also decreasing for large values of the other control parameter. A simple algorithm is developed which tracks down the globally optimum design in finite time. Numerical results show that the joint admission/inventory control policy achieves higher profit than other production control policies that have been examined in the literature.  相似文献

This paper discusses the advantages of lot splitting in hybrid manufacturing environments where cellular and functional layouts are combined under Constant Work in Process (CONWIP) production control. The proposed model fills a research gap in the related literature by applying lot splitting and pull production simultaneously. A linear CONWIP control mathematical model that minimises the average flow time is developed in case of lot splitting. The developed model has sequence-dependent set-up times. The demand level, coefficient of variation (CV) impact and set-up time reduction effect on CONWIP production control are also investigated. The model is solved using GAMS21.6 optimisation software; the optimal backlog list, the number and size of sublots are reported. The proposed model is compared with lot production under push control in different settings as well as with two different heuristics from the literature. Experimental results indicate that in all settings, the lot splitting is more advantageous than lot production in terms of average flow time. CV has a greater effect than set-up time reduction on average flow time.  相似文献

A reduced model of a re-entrant semiconductor factory exhibiting all the important features is simulated, applying a push dispatch policy at the beginning of the line and a pull dispatch policy at the end of the line. A commonly used dispatching policy that deals with short-term fluctuations in demand involves moving the transition point between both policies, the push–pull point (PPP), around. It is shown that, with a mean demand starts policy, moving the PPP by itself does not improve the performance of the production line significantly over policies that use a pure push or a pure pull dispatch policy, or a CONWIP starts policy with pure pull dispatch policy. However, when the PPP control is coupled with a CONWIP starts policy, then for high demand with high variance, the improvement becomes approximately a factor of 4. The unexpected success of a PPP policy with CONWIP is explained using concepts from fluid dynamics that predict that this policy will not work for perishable demand. The prediction is verified through additional simulations.  相似文献

In this paper, we conduct an analytical comparison of three pull production control systems: Kanban, CONWIP and Base-stock in multi-stage production processes. First, we compare the three control systems in a multi-stage serial production process. Then, we compare them in multi-stage assembly production processes, and present guidelines that allow us to select the best system. As a result, we show which structural parameters decide the superiority of one control scheme to the others, and how they are related. A key for superiority is a configuration of parameters, such as processing times and number of cards employed in the system. We show that there is no general superiority amongst the analysed concepts. Finally, we verify the effect of variability on the system performance, and generalise the analytical results of deterministic cases by conducting numerical experiments.  相似文献
