The ORPHEUS dark matter detector consists of 450 g superconducting tin granules with diameters of 28 and 36 μm. The detector has been operating in the shallow site of the underground laboratory in Bern (70 m.w.e). First preliminary results on WIMP detection sensitivity will be presented.  相似文献

A sub Kelvin Active Magnetic Regenerative Refrigerator (AMRR) is being developed at the University of Wisconsin – Madison. This AMRR consists of two circulators, two regenerators, one superleak, one cold heat exchanger, and two warm heat exchangers. The circulators are novel non-moving part pumps that reciprocate a superfluid mixture of 4He–3He in the system. Heat from the mixture is removed within the two regenerators of this tandem system. An accurate model of the regenerators in this AMRR is necessary in order to predict the performance of these components, which in turn helps predicting the overall performance of the AMRR system. This work presents modeling methodology along with results from a 1-D transient numerical model of the regenerators of an AMRR capable of removing 2.5 mW at 850 mK at cyclic steady state.  相似文献

Cryopreservation is the most reliable method for long-term storage of plant genetic resources. A review of cell injury by ice crystals and dehydration during a freeze–thaw cycle is given. For successful regeneration of plants and cultures after cryopreservation of their cells, the development of reliable cryopreservation procedure is required including preliminary cultivation, treatment by cryoprotectors, freezing by different methods, thawing and recultivation. Up to now 27 cell lines successfully resumed their growth after storage in liquid nitrogen and preserved their specific features and biosynthetic potential. Besides, shoot tips of 40 cultivars of potato, rose, strawberry and raspberry regenerated plants both in vitro and in vivo after cryopreservation. The longest storage duration was 25 years. Now in liquid nitrogen we continuously store 24 cell strains of rare medicinal plants, shoot tips of seven cultivars of strawberry and raspberry and seeds of 250 endangered plant species collected over all Russian territory.  相似文献

Cryogenic test experiments often require a large number of temperatures to be monitored. In order to reduce cost, we investigated the feasibility of low-cost common diodes. We chose the Philips BAS16 diode in a type SOT23 package. By means of Stycast 2850FT, these diodes were glued into alumina holders. In total, 20 sensors were assembled and tested. With an excitation current of 100 μA and considering a temperature range from 50 K to room temperature, a quadratic least-squares-fit was obtained: T = 486.1 − 363.7V − 38.3V2. All sensors agreed with this fit within an error of 1.3 K.  相似文献

In this study, a drilling experiment was conducted on titanium ASTM B265 Grade 2 material using PVD coated carbide inserts. Two types of coolants (Wet and LN2) were used. The variables in the experiment were feed rate (f) and cutting speed (Vc). The depth of the drilling was constant. Cutting temperature (T), thrust force (Ft), surface roughness (Ra), and the hole quality (circularity, cylindricity, and perpendicularity) were analyzed. The tool wear and chip morphology were studied. The result of the experiment indicates that there is 6–59% reduction in cutting temperature when LN2 is used, high thrust force values were recorded for LN2 coolant condition, surface roughness (Ra) values were higher for LN2 coolants. Hole quality is not favorable in LN2 coolant supply.  相似文献

LLNL is developing cryogenic capable pressure vessels with thermal endurance 5–10 times greater than conventional liquid hydrogen (LH2) tanks that can eliminate evaporative losses in routine usage of (L)H2 automobiles. In a joint effort BMW is working on a proof of concept for a first automotive cryo-compressed hydrogen storage system that can fulfill automotive requirements on system performance, life cycle, safety and cost. Cryogenic pressure vessels can be fueled with ambient temperature compressed gaseous hydrogen (CGH2), LH2 or cryogenic hydrogen at elevated supercritical pressure (cryo-compressed hydrogen, CcH2). When filled with LH2 or CcH2, these vessels contain 2–3 times more fuel than conventional ambient temperature compressed H2 vessels. LLNL has demonstrated fueling with LH2 onboard two vehicles. The generation 2 vessel, installed onboard an H2-powered Toyota Prius and fueled with LH2 demonstrated the longest unrefueled driving distance and the longest cryogenic H2 hold time without evaporative losses. A third generation vessel will be installed, reducing weight and volume by minimizing insulation thickness while still providing acceptable thermal endurance. Based on its long experience with cryogenic hydrogen storage, BMW has developed its cryo-compressed hydrogen storage concept, which is now undergoing a thorough system and component validation to prove compliance with automotive requirements before it can be demonstrated in a BMW test vehicle.  相似文献

The UHF signals are generated due to PD formed by particle movement in liquid nitrogen under AC voltages. The levitation voltage of a particle in liquid nitrogen measured through UHF technique and by conventional PD measurement technique is the same, confirming the sensitivity of UHF technique for identification of PD activity. The frequency content of UHF signal generated due to particle movement in liquid nitrogen, under AC voltages, lies in the range 0.5–1.5 GHz. The characteristics of UHF signal generated due to particle movement between the barrier and high voltage/ground electrode is much similar to the signal generated by particle movement in clean electrode gap. Pseudo resonance phenomena can occur in liquid nitrogen due to particle movement. It is also observed that the partial discharge magnitude, in general, be high when the particle moves between the barrier and high voltage electrode when compared to the barrier and the ground electrode. Percentage of clay in epoxy nanocomposites has not altered the levitation voltage of the particle in the electrode gap. Zero span analysis clearly indicates that pseudo resonance occurs when particle moves (in a short gap) between the barrier and high voltage/ground electrode.  相似文献

The fundamental characteristics of the two-dimensional cavitating flow of liquid helium in a vertical pipe near the lambda point are numerically investigated to realize the further development and high performance of new cryogenic superfluid cooling systems. It is found that the phase transition of the normal fluid to the superfluid and the generation of superfluid counterflow against normal fluid flow based on the thermomechanical effect is conspicuous in the large gas phase volume fraction region where the liquid to gas phase change with cavitation actively occurs. Furthermore, it is clarified that the mechanism of the He I to He II phase transition caused by the temperature decrease is due to the deprivation of latent heat for vaporization from the liquid phase.  相似文献

We discuss cryogenic scintillation of Al2O3. Room-temperature measurements with α particles are first carried out to study effect of Ti concentration on response. Measurements under X-rays between room temperature and 10 K confirm a doubling of light output. The integration of a scintillation-phonon detector into an ionization-phonon dark matter search is underway, and the quenching factor for neutrons has been verified.   相似文献

Effect of cryogenic CO2 and LN2 coolants in milling of aluminum alloy   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
The research work was carried out on the end milling of Al 6082-T6 alloy with cryogenic CO2, LN2 and wet conditions. The highest axial force (Fz), normal force (Fy) and feed force (Fx) values were recorded on cryogenic LN2 machining. Use of cryogenic LN2 helped to reduce the cutting temperatures up to 38.29% and 32.8% when compared with wet and cryogenic CO2 conditions, respectively. The conventional fluid coolant offered a better surface roughness value (Ra) over cryogenic coolants at a feed rate of 0.015 and 0.02 mm/tooth and cutting speed of 100 m/min. The workpiece surface quality degraded in cryogenic machining conditions during the slot end milling operation of aluminum alloy under the given machining parameters.  相似文献
