Various methods have been developed to monitor the health and strain state of carbon fiber reinforced polymers, each with a unique set of pros and cons. This research assesses the use of piezoresistive sensors for in situ strain measurement of carbon fiber and other composite structures in multidirectional laminates. The piezoresistive sensor material and the embedded circuitry are both evaluated. For the piezoresistive sensor, a conductive nickel nanocomposite sensor is compared with the piezoresistivity of the carbon fiber itself. For the circuit, the use of carbon fibers already present in the structure is compared with the use of nickel coated carbon fiber. Successful localized strain sensing is demonstrated for several sensor and circuitry configurations. Numerous engineering applications are possible in the ever-growing field of carbon-composites.  相似文献

The study presents the preparation of the new magnetic nanocomposite based on PLGA and magnetite. The PLGA used to obtain the magnetic nanocomposites was synthesized by the copolymerization of lactic acid with glycolic acid, in the presence of tin octanoate [Sn(Oct)2] as catalyst, by polycondensation procedure. Magnetite was obtained by co-precipitation from aqueous salt solutions FeCl2/FeCl3. The particles size of magnetite was 420 nm, and the saturation magnetization 62.78 emu/g, while the PLGA/magnetite nanocomposite size was 864 nm and the saturation magnetization 39.44 emu/g. The magnetic nanocomposites were characterized by FT-IR, DLS technique, SEM, VSM and simultaneous thermal analyses (TG–FTIR–MS). The polymer matrix PLGA acts as a shell and carrier for the active component, while magnetite is the component which makes targeting possible by external magnetic field manipulation. Based on the gases resulted by thermal degradation of PLGA copolymer, using the simultaneous analysis TG–FTIR–MS, a possible degradation mechanism was proposed.  相似文献

The present paper tests experimentally the through-thickness electrical conductivity of carbon fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) composites laminates for aircraft applications. Two types of samples were prepared: Type A samples with carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and Type B samples without CNTs. During the electrical experiments, electrical currents of several mA were injected through the specimens. Electrical resistance was monitored simultaneously in order to deduce the changes in the through-the-thickness electrical conductivity caused by the addition of CNTs. Improvement of electrical conduction by two orders of magnitude was achieved through the addition of 1 wt% carbon nanotubes as compared to classic CFRP without CNTs. For moisture saturated samples, the influence of moisture absorption on such measures was found to be negligible.  相似文献

This paper deals with the investigation of the effect of hygrothermal conditions on the bending of nanoplates using Levy type solution model employing the state-space concept. The nanoplates are assumed to be subjected to a hygrothermal environment. The two-unknown function plate theory is used to derive the governing differential equations on the basis of Eringen's nonlocal elasticity theory. The governing equations contain the small scale effect as well as hygrothermal and mechanical effects. These equations are converted into a set of first-order linear ordinary differential equations with constant coefficients. Analytical solution of bending response for nanoplates under combinations of simply supported, clamped and free boundary conditions is obtained. Comparison of the results with those being in the open literature is made. The influences played by small scale parameter, temperature rise, the degree of moisture concentration, boundary conditions, plate aspect ratio and side-to-thickness ratio are studied.  相似文献

In this study, water-blown biopolyurethane (BPU) foams based on palm oil were developed and cellulose nanocrystals (CNC) were incorporated to improve the mechanical properties of the foams. In addition, the foams were compared with petroleum polyurethane (PPU) foam. The foam properties and cellular morphology were characterized. The obtained results revealed that a low-density, semi-rigid BPU foam was prepared using a new formulation. CNC as an additive significantly improved the compressive strength from 54 to 117 kPa. Additionally, cyclic compression tests indicated that the addition of CNC increased the rigidity, leading to decreased deformation resilience. The dimensional stability of BPU foams was increased with increasing CNC concentration for both heating and freezing conditions. Therefore, the developed BPU nanocomposite foams are expected to have great potential as core material in composite sandwich panels as well as in other construction materials.  相似文献

Filtration of nanofillers into porous fabric media is still an issue during the preparation of advanced fiber-reinforced composites. The assessment of resin/multiwall carbon nanotube (MWCNT) flow, MWCNT filtration, and the cure monitoring of glass fiber/carbon nanotube-polyester composites by means of the measurement of the electrical resistance was introduced. The vacuum-assisted resin transfer molding technique was used. The electrical resistances measured over the span of a composite were qualitatively correlated with MWCNT flow and the degree of MWCNT filtration. It was found that while the complexity of the fabrics could likely introduce preferential deposition of MWCNTs, their filtration is mainly affected by their dispersion state in the resin suspension. Relationships among critical parameters such as the lengths and diameters of MWCNTs, the inter- and intra-tow dimensions of glass fabrics, the dispersion level of MWCNTs, and the viscosity of nanocomposite samples are discussed and correlated to the filtration, cure, and flow phenomena. We showed that our method can also serve as an early warning to obviate defects in the resulting composite.  相似文献

Sustainable “green nanocomposites” of polylactide (PLA) and poly(1,4-butylene succinate) (PBS) were obtained by slit die extrusion at low temperature. Dispersed PBS inclusions were sheared and longitudinally deformed with simultaneous cooling in a slot capillary and PBS nanofibers were formed. Shearing of PBS increases nonisothermal crystallization temperature by 30 °C. Tensile deformation was investigated by in-situ experiments in SEM chamber. Dominant deformation mechanism of PLA is crazing, however, there are dormant shear bands formed during slit die extrusion. Pre-existing shear bands are inactive in tensile deformation but contribute to ductility by blocking, initiating and diffusing typical craze growth. PBS nanofibers are spanning PLA craze surfaces and bridging craze gaps when PLA nanofibrils broke at large strain. Straight crazes become undulated because either dormant or new shear bands become activated between crazes. Due to interaction of crazes and shear bands the ductility increases while high strength and stiffness are retained.  相似文献

Based on nonlocal theory, this article discusses vibration of CDVGS1 systems. The properties of each single layer graphene sheet (SLGS) are assumed to be orthotropic and viscoelastic. The two SLGSs are simply supported and coupled by an enclosing viscoelastic medium which is simulated as a Visco-Pasternak layer. This model is aimed at representing dynamic interactions in nanocomposite materials with dissipation effect. By considering the Kirchhoff plate theory and Kelvin–Voigt model, the governing equation is derived using Hamilton's principle. The equation is solved analytically to obtain the complex natural frequency. The parametric study is thoroughly performed, concentrating on the series effects of viscoelastic damping structure, aspect ratio, visco-Pasternak medium, and mode number. In this system, in-phase (IPV) and out-of-phase (OPV) vibrations are investigated. The numerical results of this article show a perfect correspondence with those of the previous researches.  相似文献

An organomodified surface nanoclay reinforced epoxy glass-fiber composite is evaluated for properties of mechanical strength, stiffness, ductility and fatigue life, and compared with the pristine or epoxy glass-fiber composite material not reinforced with nanoclays. The results from monotonic tensile tests of the nanoclay reinforced composite material at 60 °C in air showed an average 11.7% improvement in the ultimate tensile strength, 10.6% improvement in tensile modulus, and 10.5% improvement in tensile ductility vs. these mechanical properties obtained for the pristine material. From tension–tension fatigue tests at a stress-ratio = +0.9 and at 60 °C in air, the nanoclay reinforced composite had a 7.9% greater fatigue strength and a fatigue life over a decade longer or 1000% greater than the pristine composite when extrapolated to 109 cycles or a simulated 10-year cyclic life. Electron microscopy and Raman spectroscopy of the fracture and failure modes of the test specimens were used to support the results and conclusions. This nanocomposite could be used as a new and improved material for repair or rehabilitation of external surface wall corrosion or physical damage on piping and vessels found in petrochemical process plants and facilities to extend their operational life.  相似文献

The ability of highly conductive hybrid carbon–fiber/carbon nanotube loaded epoxy composites to sense matrix cracking damage in situ is demonstrated. Multi-walled carbon-nanotubes (MWCNTs) are grown perpendicular to and on the surface of a woven carbon–fiber fabric using a chemical vapor deposition process. An increase in sensitivity of resistance change under interlaminar fracture is shown through a series of double cantilever beam (DCB) tests on samples prepared with MWCNTs grown on both sides of carbon–fiber fabric lamina placed at the top and bottom surfaces of an 8-layer test panel whereas samples with MWCNTs inside the samples did not show much increase in sensitivity of resistance change compared with the baseline samples without MWCNTs. The results suggest that the addition of surface positioned hierarchical carbon-nanotube lamina on composite structures has the potential for autonomic sensing of internal matrix damage.  相似文献
