The purpose of the present study was to examine the prevalence of cyber-bullying through Facebook in a sample of 226 Greek university undergraduates, and to explore whether big five personality characteristics, narcissism, as well as attitudes toward Facebook, technological knowledge and skills were predictive of such behavior. Participants completed a self-report questionnaire measuring the above constructs. Results indicated that almost one third of the sample reported Facebook bullying engagement at least once during the past month, with male students reporting more frequent involvement than females. Bullying through Facebook was predicted by low Agreeableness and more time spent on Facebook only for males, whereas for females none of the studied variables predicted engagement in Facebook bullying. Findings are discussed in terms of prevention and intervention strategies.  相似文献

Established literature supports the notion that depressed individuals tend to be socially maladjusted and behave differently from those who aren't depressed. Yet, previous studies seem to overlook the influence of personality on behavior. Particularly, neuroticism may moderate the effect of depression on the way people behave. As one of the Big-Five factors of personality, neuroticism refers to a trait of one's capability to control emotional distress. Based on behavioral data from 393 Facebook users, current research demonstrates the interaction between depression and personality. Users engaged in activities at different levels of activities corresponding to their depression levels. Further, the effect of depression on social networking was regulated by personality: once neuroticism exceeded certain points, an increase in depression led to a decrease in social networking activities.  相似文献

The classification of internet addiction as a distinct diagnosis in the upcoming DSM-V is currently under debate. Nevertheless, before this issue is resolved, there are important related questions in the field of internet addiction that are in need of an answer, e.g. which personality dimensions may predispose towards problematic internet use. One such factor seems to be neuroticism. However, a sole factor like neuroticism alone is not very useful with respect to generating implications for behavior therapy and treatment of afflicted patients, because it includes too many facets of negative personality traits ranging from shyness to anxiety. Therefore, in this study we aimed to measure the grade of problematic internet use with the internet addiction test (IAT); moreover, we measured personality with Eysenck’s Personality Questionnaire (EPQ-R) and with the Temperament and Character Inventory (TCI). In addition to the EPQ-R, the TCI provides further information with respect to which facets of personality are associated with problematic internet use. In N = 201 participants, we found that self-directedness is a better predictor than neuroticism for problematic internet use. Moreover, the time spent online in leisure activities was a significant predictor for a high IAT score. Implications for behavior therapy are discussed.  相似文献

"Eysenck's short neuroticism and extraversion scales were used in interviews with 180 American housewives. The scales proved to be uncorrelated with each other, even though both were significantly correlated with a measure of agreeing response set. The reliability of the neuroticism scale was .72; and of the extraversion scale, .41. Some differences between the present results and Eysenck's results were discussed." The importance of teams and their impact on the contemporary workplace cannot be overstated. Many studies have been conducted to point to specific relevant factors related to team performance. Nonetheless, there remains relatively little that is known about the mechanisms and interactions that lead to high performing teams. In this study we consider communication (a key feature of teamwork) as a potentially mediating factor between each aspect of human personality (as measured by the Five Factor Model) and team performance. This exploratory study sheds further light on how personalities affect teams via communication, using a structural equation modeling approach. Results indicate that at least one team measure of extraversion, agreeableness, neuroticism, and openness is moderated by communication in influencing team performance.Relevance to industryThis research can aid managers on the relative importance of personality metrics on team performance, as well as the nature of the relationships among these metrics. This has the potential to improve organizational performance and reinforces the need for communication in fostering teamwork.  相似文献

Editing pictures before posting has become a common impression management practice among social media users. Drawing from dramaturgical theory, this study explored the dispositional and cultural predictors of portrait-editing intentions between Chinese and U.S. college females through an online survey. Results demonstrate that Chinese college females exhibit higher body image self-discrepancy than American college females. Moreover, neuroticism and covert narcissism positively predict body image self-discrepancy, while overt narcissism negatively predicts self-discrepancy. In addition, body image self-discrepancy mediates the relationships between three personality traits and portrait-editing intentions for Americans. Finally, the effect of body image self-discrepancy on portrait-editing intentions is stronger for Americans than for Chinese.  相似文献

One of the most important goals and outcomes of social life is to attain status in the groups to which we belong. Such face-to-face status is defined by the amount of respect, influence, and prominence each member enjoys in the eyes of the others. Three studies investigated personological determinants of status in social groups (fraternity, sorority, and dormitory), relating the Big Five personality traits and physical attractiveness to peer ratings of status. High Extraversion substantially predicted elevated status for both sexes. High Neuroticism, incompatible with male gender norms, predicted lower status in men. None of the other Big Five traits predicted status. These effects were independent of attractiveness, which predicted higher status only in men. Contrary to previous claims, women's status ordering was just as stable as men's but emerged later. Discussion focuses on personological pathways to attaining status and on potential mediators. Studies related to the measurement of the emotional response and its relationship with preferences and consumer behavior are gaining relevance in the last years. Some of them have highlighted the influence of individual factors, such as personality, on the evoked emotions. The current study examined the relationship between personality traits and the emotions elicited by different wine samples. Six wines were assessed by 175 consumers in terms of hedonic and emotional response, using 9-point scale and EsSense25 respectively. Consumers were clustered into four personality segments according to their personality traits which were determined using the Big Five Inventory method. Results showed an association between the psychological profile and the elicited emotions. A strong effect of personality on the emotional response elicited by the wine samples was found on 14 emotions. In addition, a significant effect was found for six emotions when studying the sample effect. The main relationships between personality and emotions were found in two consumers’ segments: G1 characterized by higher ratings on the Neuroticism dimension, was more related to negative emotions than G4. On the contrary, G4, defined by higher ratings on Extraversion, Agreeableness, and Consciousness, was more related to positive emotions than G1. No significant interactions between wine and personality were identified, meaning that the effect of personality did not change significantly across wines. Splitting the consumers’ panel depending on their personality profile allowed obtaining a deeper overview and a further understanding of the emotions evoked by wines.  相似文献

A level of adjustment dimension utilizing a combination of Taylor MAS and Winne Scale of Neuroticism scales has been developed for the Strong VIB. 400 graduate psychology students served as Ss while a second validation used 200 male freshmen. For the 33 items split-half reliability on the first cross-validation was .73. Criterion cross-validations yielded corrected correlations of .44 and .51. 27 references.
