The APA Membership Committee announces that the 1,838 persons listed here were elected to initial membership in the American Psychological Association as of January 1, 1985. Of these, 1,392 were elected as Members, and 446 as Associate members. Though not all of them have validated their election by payment of initial dues, all but a few will eventually do so. In addition, in accordance with Article II, Section 8, of the Bylaws, 316 Associate members were transferred to Member status as of January 1, 1985. Advancing mental health in political places.

The author describes his career as a psychologist serving in elected office. He found that by his attending to individual concerns, supporting community consensus on key issues, playing the outsider role, leading an issue individually, and calling media attention to a problem, city hall could be moved to action. In the state legislature, the author serves in the minority but has made an impact by amending legislation, sponsoring less controversial bills, or generating enough public support for a bill that the majority advances its own similar bill. He identified the following mental health needs in Ohio: better understanding by legislators of the nature and impact of mental illness, adequate funding, mental health parity legislation, and more effective advocacy. Ionic transport properties and their variations with grain size in nanostructured double doped cerias such as Ce0.8Gd0.1Pr0.1O2−δ and Ce0.8Gd0.15Pr0.05O2−δ

This work presents the ionic transport properties in some nanocrystalline double doped cerias, i.e., Ce_0.8Gd_0.1Pr_0.1O_2−δ and Ce_0.8Gd_0.15Pr_0.05O_2−δ with various average grain sizes, in the intermediate temperature region. The correlations between electrical and dielectric properties of these materials have been established and variation of conductivity with respect to temperature has been thoroughly discussed. All the materials are found to be ionic in nature and show high value of ionic conductivity at intermediate temperatures. The nanocrystalline Ce_0.8Gd_0.1Pr_0.1O_2−δ material (irrespective of grain size), shows lowest association energy, i.e., 0.03 eV, which is close to the theoretically predicted lowest value (0.02 eV) in double doped ceria. A repulsive force is expected between the free oxygen vacancies at the grain boundary regions at higher temperatures, which restricts the rise in grain boundary conductivity and results in decrease in total conductivity.

The contextual associates of sun and God in Schreber's autobiography.

"An objective procedure of contextual analysis was applied to test opposing predictions derived from Freud's (1948) and from Macalpine and Hunter's (1955) studies of the Schreber case. Freud maintained that both God and sun were father symbols for Schreber; Macalpine and Hunter contended that God and sun were ambisexual symbols and stressed their feminine connotations. The… analysis involved categorizing words appearing in close association with the key words God, sun, and Flechsig and in close connection with male and female words, and correlating the distributions of categorized responses with each other. It was found that the way Schreber wrote about God was significantly more like the way he wrote about male… ." Anxiety and the variability of word associates.

15 Ss who scored high on the Taylor MA scale and 15 Ss who scored low on the MA scale were given a word associate task. The highly anxious Ss tended to have sets of word associates lower in intersubject variability than the nonanxious Ss for stimulus words that elicited sets of word associates that are low in variability. Highly anxious Ss tended to give sets of word associates higher in intersubject variability than nonanxious Ss for stimulus words that elicited sets of word associates that are high in intersubject variability.
