Eu@C86 isomers: Calculated relative populations

Abstract

Relative populations of four energy-lowest IPR (isolated-pentagon-rule) isomers of Eu@C₈₆ are computed using the Gibbs energy based on characteristics from density functional theory calculations (M06-2X/3-21G?～?SDD entropy term, M06-2X/6-31G*～SDD or B2PLYP(D)/6-31G*～SDD energetics). The calculations confirm that the recently isolated Eu@C₁(7)-C₈₆ species is a major isomer in a relevant temperature region. Relationship to the empty C₈₆ cages is discussed, too.

Role of Perceived Importance in Intergroup Contact.

Furthering G. W. Allport's (1954) contentions for optimal contact, the authors introduce a new construct: the perceived importance of contact. They propose that perceived importance is the best proximal predictor of contact's reduction of prejudice. If individuals have opportunities for contact at work or in the neighborhood, their chances to have intergroup acquaintances and friends increase. Intergroup contact among acquaintances and friends can be perceived as more or less important, which in turn determines intergroup evaluations. A 1st study shows that the new measure of perceived importance is indeed distinct from established quantity and quality indicators. The results are cross-validated in a 2nd study that also sheds light on the meaning of importance. In 3rd and 4th studies, structural equation analyses and a meta-analysis support the hypotheses. Juvenile competence to stand trial evaluations: A survey of current practices and test usage among psychologists.

What is the current standard of practice for evaluations of juvenile competence to stand trial (JCST)? The present study surveyed psychologists regarding the practices used when conducting JCST evaluations. Respondents rated the importance of 17 elements that might be included in a JCST evaluation report. Of these elements, 7 were considered essential by 70% or more of respondents, with 9 additional elements rated as either essential or recommended. A majority of respondents felt that the use of psychological and forensic instruments was important. A list of tests used is provided, and the implications for the development of standards and policy are discussed to provide practitioners with additional knowledge that will help to further the state of the discipline. Moral value transfer from regulatory fit: What feels right is right and what feels wrong is wrong.

People experience regulatory fit (E. T. Higgins, 2000) when the strategic manner of their goal pursuit suits their regulatory orientation, and this regulatory fit feels right. Fit violation feels wrong. Four studies tested the proposal that experiences of fit can transfer to moral evaluations. The authors examined transfer of feeling wrong from fit violation by having participants in a promotion or prevention focus recall transgressions of commission or omission (Studies 1 and 2). Both studies found that when the type of transgression was a fit violation, participants expressed more guilt. Studies 3 and 4 examined transfer of feeling right from regulatory fit. Teachers' brief nonverbal behaviors in defined instructional situations can predict students' evaluations.

Can a few seconds of high school teachers' nonverbal (NV) behavior predict students' ratings of these teachers (SRT)? Yes, but NV-SRT relations varied among various instructional situations. NV behaviors while administering the class and using the board were unrelated to SRT. Positive judgments of NV behavior while disciplining the class and interacting with students were positively related to SRT. NV behaviors in frontal teaching were negatively related to SRT. The most negative NV-SRT relations were found for teachers' differential NV behavior toward high- versus low-achieving students. Teacher differentiality and SRT have rarely been investigated in high school. The structure of SRT seems to differ between high school and college, and students' anger about teachers' differentiality strongly predicted their evaluations. Stored energy analysis of Zn—5Al eutectic alloy in superplastic deformation

The stored energy and the energy release during SPD(superplastic deformation)of a Zn-5Al alloy were studied.The alloy after rolling process gains more stored energy,and the as-rolled speciment can obtain maximum elongation and minimum flow stress without hot loding treatment before SPD.Experimental results show that stroed energy release process is along with SPD process and is also an impetus to SPD.The as -rolled Zn-5Al alloy has 48J/mol stored energy which was measured with DSC(differential scanning calorimeter)and conforms well to the calcuated value.The as-rolled Zn-5Al alloy after SPD with an elongation of 2500% releases 112J/mol stored energy,Analysis shows that the strain rate is in direct ratio to the rate of stred energy release.     

二氧化碳与磷化氢混合熏蒸防治储烟害虫试验

目前,储烟害虫防治普遍采用磷化铝片剂常规熏蒸法,磷化铝施用量为6～9g/m3,安全上存在一定的隐患。为了减少磷化铝用药量,于2003年应用微电脑控制的仓外混合熏蒸机,施用钢瓶装液化二氧化碳和56%磷化铝片剂,进行了二氧化碳与磷化氢混合熏蒸杀虫试验,以8g/m3磷化铝常规熏蒸法为对照。试验结果表明,磷化铝施用量为2.3g/m3、二氧化碳施用量为12g/m3,混合熏蒸结果达到100%杀死害虫。与对照相比,杀虫效果相同,混合熏蒸法具有磷化铝施用量较小、较为安全和有利于减少污染等优点。
