Numerous conceptual difficulties and misconceptions have been reported in the science and chemistry education literature about electrochemistry concepts such as electrolytes, redox equations, and about electrochemical (galvanic and electrolytic) cells. Other studies have considered teaching approaches aimed at improving learning and at overcoming misconceptions. This paper reviews these studies and considers strategies and approaches for the effective teaching of electrochemistry. Then, the review focuses on problem solving in equilibrium electrochemistry, especially problems involving the Nernst equation. The main findings of four studies with Greek university chemistry students, dealing with: (i) algorithmic problem‐solving ability; (ii) practice on problem solving; (iii) the effect of the format of a problem; and (iv) the construction and evaluation of a website devoted to electrochemistry problem solving, are reported. 相似文献

Technical ceramics exhibit exceptional high-temperature properties, but unfortunately their extreme crack sensitivity and high melting point make it challenging to manufacture geometrically complex structures with sufficient strength and toughness. Emerging additive manufacturing technologies enable the fabrication of large-scale complex-shape artifacts with architected internal topology; when such topology can be arranged at the microscale, the defect population can be controlled, thus improving the strength of the material. Here, ceramic micro-architected materials are fabricated using direct ink writing (DIW) of an alumina nanoparticle-loaded ink, followed by sintering. After characterizing the rheology of the ink and extracting optimal processing parameters, the microstructure of the sintered structures is investigated to assess composition, density, grain size and defect population. Mechanical experiments reveal that woodpile architected materials with relative densities of 0.38–0.73 exhibit higher strength and damage tolerance than fully dense ceramics printed under identical conditions, an intriguing feature that can be attributed to topological toughening. 相似文献

This study addressed two main questions: (a) Are adolescent sons and daughters exposed to sensitive maternal disclosures after divorce with similar frequency and in similar detail? and (b) Does gender act as a moderator in the association between maternal disclosures and adolescent adjustment difficulties? Forced-choice and open-ended data were collected from 194 adolescents within 2 years after their parents' divorce. Quantitative analyses revealed that although the majority of adolescents experience some level of maternal disclosure, neither frequency nor detail of maternal disclosure differed as a function of adolescent gender. Frequent and detailed maternal disclosures were associated with adolescent adjustment difficulties, primarily psychological distress. Gender did not moderate that significant association. Qualitative analysis shed light on the link between maternal disclosures and adolescent distress, suggested the importance of how disclosures are made, and revealed several gender differences in reactions to maternal disclosures. In this introduction to a special issue of Computers and Composition, the authors critically review current literature on computer-assisted writing pedagogies that grapple with issues of sexuality. Although this body of work is small, it points to provocative ways to develop our students’ critical and rhetorical sensibilities about the constructions of sexuality in our culture. Further, such work innovatively addresses the place of networked communication technologies in the interrogation of such constructions.
