A study was performed to determine the drying characteristics and quality of barley grain dried in a laboratory scale spouted-bed dryer at 30, 35, 40, and 45°C and an inlet air velocity of 23 m/s-1, and in an IR-convection dryer under an infrared radiation intensity of 0.048, 0.061, 0.073, and 0.107 W cm-2 at an air velocity of 0.5 m/s-1. The results show that the first, relatively short, phase of a sharp decrease in the drying rate was followed by the phase of a slow decrease. The time of barley drying depended on temperature of inlet air in a spouted-bed dryer and on radiation intensities in an IR-convection dryer. Barley drying at 45°C in a spouted-bed dryer was accompanied by the lowest total energy consumption. The average specific energy consumption was lower and the average efficiency of drying was higher for drying in a spouted-bed dryer. The effective diffusivities were in the range 2.20-4.52 × 10-11 m2 s-1 and 3.04-4.79 × 10-11 m2/s-1 for barley dried in a spouted-bed and in an IR-convection dryer, respectively. There were no significant differences in kernel germination energy and capacity between the two drying methods tested.  相似文献

The effect of solute impregnation on water loss and oil uptake during potato strip frying was studied. Blanched potato strips were impregnated at 25°C by soaking in a solution of sucrose-NaCl-water, 20-5-75% by weight. After rinsing and air drying, strips were deep fried in sunflower oil at 160, 170 and 180°C. A control treatment, consisting of potato strips blanched but not soaked and later air dried was also conducted. Solute impregnation provided a decrease of the oil uptake. Two models, based on Fick's law were used to describe water loss during frying. The first one is the classic model with an effective moisture diffusion coefficient assumed a constant value. The second model considers that diffusion coefficient varies during the frying process. For a given frying temperature, constant diffusion coefficient for control potatoes resulted in lower values than the impregnated ones. The variable diffusivity model showed a two-stage behavior: during the first stage of frying, diffusion coefficient increased with frying temperatures, but from a given time on an inverse behavior began. This last fact was found to be related to an increase of the measured peak force needed to penetrate the potato crust.  相似文献

In order to predict wax deposition problems the key parameter is the wax diffusion coefficient. While it is quite easy to find measured diffusivity values for well-defined compounds at quite low concentrations, very few experimental data are available for wax diffusivity in oil. Most of the literature data are estimated by interpolating experimental data obtained by loop tests and then they are affected by a noticeable uncertainty. In fact this parameter collects the whole uncertainty of the test and the paradoxical situation is that the key parameter ends to be the most error-affected or to be used as a pivotable parameter in “predictive” models. This article describes an experimental procedure to determine the overall diffusivity coefficient of waxes into the oil; the main advantage of this technique is that it allows the direct measure of diffusivity on the oil. Besides it is a very simple and straightforward technique. Results obtained were used to gain insight into the deposition process; the conclusion was that, due to the counter-intuitive diffusivity dependence on temperature, it is likely that noncompositional models available at present are structurally incorrect.  相似文献

The effects of motility and aggregation on the diffusion coefficient for bacteria were studied in an aqueous system. The effects of cell concentrations, capillary tube sizes, and dilution rates on the diffusion coefficient were examined. In general, motile cells can diffuse about 1000 times faster than non-motile cells.Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a motile cell, andKlebsiella pneumoniae, a non-motile cell, were used for this research. Diffusion coefficients were measured by the capillary tube assay developed by Adler [1969]. From this procedure the diffusion coefficient ofPseudomonas aeruginosa was 2.1×10−5 (standard deviation: 1.0× 10−5) cm2/s and that ofKlebsiella pneumoniae was 0.9×10−5 (standard deviation : 0.5 × 10−5) cm2/s. The diffusion coefficient ofPseudomonas aeruginosa was about 2.3 times higher than that ofKlebsiella pneumoniae. The Stokes-Einstein equation could not be used for estimating the diffusion coefficients forKlebsiella pneumoniae andPseudomonas aeruginosa. The experimental value for the diffusion coefficient ofKlebsiella pneumoniae was about 2000 times higher than that (4.5×10−9 cm2/s) obtained from the Stokes-Einstein equation. This discrepancy was due to the aggregation ofKlebsiella pneumoniae.  相似文献

In this paper, we provide exact analytical solutions for a new method of constant molar flow of pure gas into a reservoir containing solid adsorbents having a bidispersed structure, such as zeolite, activated carbon and alumina. Depending on the diffusion mechanism, two models are proposed under the isothermal conditions and linear isotherm. One is applicable to zeolite, and the other for alumina and activated carbon. The solutions of these two models are in the form of an infinite series, and its eigenvalues are determined from a transcendental equation. This transcendental equation is such that the eigenvalues are lumped into infinite but countable groups, and in each group there are infinite but countable eigenvalues. The dominant eigenvalues are generally the first ten to thirty eigenvalues (depending on the value of time at which the series is evaluated) in each group. The pressure response of the reservoir is a function of time as the result of the introduction of adsorbate into the reservoir, and as time is sufficiently large it asymptotes to a straight line, of which the slope is a function of the equilibrium parameters only and the intercept is found to be an explicit function of the equilibrium parameters as well as the diffusivities in the macropore and micropore.  相似文献

A model is presented in this work through which variation of hydraulic diffusivity of concrete with relative water content can be obtained from pore size distribution as an input. The specific water capacity and hydraulic conductivity of concrete are expressed in terms of pore size characteristics, considering laminar flow due to capillary suction through tortuous elliptic tubes, oriented equally in three orthogonal directions. Hydraulic diffusivity being the ratio of hydraulic conductivity and specific water capacity is thus expressed in terms of pore size characteristics. The input pore size distributions have been determined experimentally for normal strength concrete mixes through mercury intrusion porosimetry. Using the model the variation of hydraulic diffusivity with relative water content is determined for three cases viz. 1) ideal continuous wetting, 2) ideal continuous drying and 3) random access of pores by water. These results are then compared with an experimentally obtained variation.  相似文献

The electrochemical permeation and desorption techniques for studying the entry, transport and trapping of hydrogen in metals are outlined. These techniques are susceptible to numerous pitfalls. To obtain reliable data, the experimental conditions must be carefully controlled. As an example, the permeation of hydrogen through and the desorption of hydrogen from cathodically charged Armco iron membranes were investigated. The analysis of the partial permeation transients and then the analysis of the desorption rate of hydrogen from both sides of the membrane enabled determination the lattice diffusivity of hydrogen as well as the amounts and distribution of the diffusible and trapped hydrogen.  相似文献

Operations including borehole fluid injections are typical for exploration and development of hydrocarbon or geothermic reservoirs. Microseismicity occurring during such operations has a large potential for understanding physics of the seismogenic process as well as in obtaining detailed information about reservoirs at locations as far as several kilometers from boreholes. We propose that the phenomenon of microseismicity triggering by borehole fluid injections is related to the process of the Frenkel–Biot slow wave propagation. In the low-frequency range (hours or days of fluid injection durations) this process reduces to the pore-pressure diffusion. We search for diffusion-related features of induced microseismicity. Two types of such signatures are considered. The first one is related to the geometry of microseismic clouds. Another type of signature is related to the probability of microearthquakes. On this basis we introduce a concept for interpretation of microseismic data which provides a possibility to infer information about hydraulic properties of rocks. Such information can be of significant importance for industrial applications and for understanding physical properties of geological structures.  相似文献

An analysis of the solute dispersion in the liquid flowing through a pipe by means of Aris-Barton's ⒈method of moments',under the joint effect of some finite yield stress and irreversible absorption into the wall is presented in this paper.The liquid is considered as a three-layer liquid where the center region is Casson liquid surrounded by Newtonian liquid layer.A significant change from previous modelling exercises in the study of hydrodynamic dispersion,different molecular diffusivity has been considered for the different region yet to be constant.For all time period,finite difference implicit scheme has been adopted to solve the integral moment equation arising from the unsteady convective diffusion equation.The purpose of the study is to find the dependency of solute transport coefficients on absorption parameter,yield stress,viscosity ratio,peripheral layer variation and in addition with various diffusivity coefficients in different liquid layers.This kind of study may be useful for understanding the dispersion process in the blood flow analysis.  相似文献
