Since the launch of the ENVISAT satellite in 2002, the Radar Altimetry Mission provides systematic observations of the Earth topography. Among the different goals of the ENVISAT Mission, one directly concerns land hydrology: the monitoring of the water levels of lakes, wetlands, and rivers. The ENVISAT Geophysical Data Records products contain, over different type of surfaces, altimeter ranges derived from four specialized algorithms or retrackers. However, none of the retrackers are intended to the processing of the radar echoes over continental waters. A validation study is necessary to assess the performances of the different ENVISAT-derived water levels to monitor inland waters. We have selected four test-zones over the Amazon basin to achieve this validation study. We compare first the performances of these retracking algorithms to deliver reliable water levels for land hydrology. Comparisons with in-situ gauge stations showed that Ice-1 algorithm, based on the Offset Centre of Gravity technique, provides the more accurate water stages. The development of new hydrological simulation tools allows for the modelling of large hydrological catchments, with the aim of comprehensive management of the water resources, control of diffuse pollution processes, such as the fate of agricultural fertilizants and finally, with purposes of economical optimization of the crop yields as a function of the expected climate, the watershed characteristics and the socio-economical conditions of the region where the catchment is located. This paper describes the sensitivity analysis of a hydrological distributed model applied in one large European watershed by using a two-step procedure. Firstly, it allows for the consideration of a huge input parameter data set by using an implementation of the Morris screening procedure, eschewing the huge computational requirements arising from the necessary repetitive simulations. In the second step it provides quantitative estimations of sensitivity in terms of variance decomposition procedures based upon the FAST method for both the hydrological and the water quality determinants. 相似文献

Rivermouth ecosystems in the Laurentian Great Lakes represent complex hydrologic mixing zones where lake and river water combine to form biologically productive areas that are functionally similar to marine estuaries. As urban, industrial, shipping, and recreational centers, rivermouths are the focus of human interactions with the Great Lakes and, likewise, may represent critical habitat for larval fish and other biota. The hydrology and related geomorphology in these deltaic systems form the basis for ecosystem processes and wetland habitat structure but are poorly understood. To this end, we examined hydrogeomorphic structure and lake-tributary mixing in three rivermouths of intermediate size using water chemistry, stable isotopes, and current profiling over a five-month period. In rivermouths of this size, the maximum depth of the rivermouth ecosystem influenced water mixing, with temperature-related, density-dependent wedging and layering that isolated lake water below river water occurring in deeper systems. The inherent size of the rivermouth ecosystem, local geomorphology, and human modifications such as shoreline armoring and dredging influenced mixing by altering the propensity for density differences to occur. The improved scientific understanding and framework for characterizing hydrogeomorphic processes in Great Lakes rivermouths across a disturbance gradient is useful for conservation, management, restoration, and protection of critical habitats needed by native species. 相似文献

城市化引起的诸多水生态、水环境及洪灾问题均与天然水文条件的破坏紧密相关;水文控制指标是海绵城市建设中的关键控制指标。在调研国际城市雨洪管理的演变及目前城市水文控制指标发展趋势的基础上,提出海绵城市建设所必需的水文控制指标体系概念。该体系包括维持河湖湿地基流与地下水补给的入渗控制指标,减少雨洪面源污染的水质控制指标,防止河道侵蚀的水土侵蚀控制指标,以及避免小量级洪涝和减轻极端洪涝灾害的洪水控制指标。在此基础上,分析了我国在海绵城市建设中缺乏完整水文控制指标体系的现状,并提出了我国目前在建立城市雨洪管理水文控制指标工作中亟待开展的工作,为海绵城市建设中合理确定适合各地具体条件的水文控制指标体系提供研究思路与参考。 相似文献

Computer models are useful tools for evaluating environmental and economic sustainability of proposed dedicated cellulosic grass ecosystems for biofuel production. This study developed an integrated, field scale, and process-based ecosystem model (DRAINMOD-GRASS) for simulating hydrological processes, soil carbon and nitrogen cycling, and plant growth in cropping systems for producing bioenergy grasses in lowland areas. We tested the model using measurements from three replicated switchgrass (Panicum virgatum) plots located in eastern North Carolina, USA. Results showed that the model accurately predicted 5-year (2009–2013) biomass yield. Predicted daily water table depth closely matched field measurements with Nash-Sutcliffe coefficient of 0.86. The model also accurately predicted temporal dynamics of daily soil moisture and temperature with Nash-Sutcliffe coefficients of 0.7 and 0.9, respectively. Predicted seasonal changes in net N mineralization and nitrification rates were comparable to field measurements in 2011 and 2012. 相似文献

A downscaling method for the near-surface soil moisture retrieved from passive microwave sensors is applied to the PBMR data collected during the Monsoon '90 experiment. The downscaling method requires (1) the coarse resolution microwave observations, (2) the fine-scale distribution of soil temperature and (3) the fine-scale distribution of surface conditions composed of atmospheric forcing and the parameters involved in the modeling of land surface-atmosphere interactions. During the Monsoon '90 experiment, eight ground-based meteorological and flux stations were operating over the 150 km2 study area simultaneously with the acquisition of the aircraft-based L-band PBMR data. The heterogeneous scene is hence composed of eight subpixels and the microwave pixel is generated by aggregating the microwave emission of all sites. The results indicate a good agreement between the downscaled and ground-based soil moisture as long as the intensity of solar radiation is sufficiently high to use the soil temperature as a tracer of the spatial variability of near-surface soil moisture. 相似文献
