Mean stand height is an important parameter for forest volume and biomass estimation in support of monitoring and management activities. Information on mean stand height is typically obtained through the manual interpretation of aerial photography, often supplemented by the collection of field calibration data. In remote areas where forest management practices may not be spatially exhaustive or where it is difficult to acquire aerial photography, alternate approaches for estimating stand height are required. One approach is to use very high spatial resolution (VHSR) satellite imagery (pixels sided less than 1 m) as a surrogate for air photos. In this research we demonstrate an approach for modelling mean stand height at four sites in the Yukon Territory, Canada, from QuickBird panchromatic imagery. An object-based approach was used to generate homogenous segments from the imagery (analogous to manually delineated forest stands) and an algorithm was used to automatically delineate individual tree crowns within the segments. A regression tree was used to predict mean stand height from stand-level metrics generated from the image grey-levels and within-stand objects relating individual tree crown characteristics. Heights were manually interpreted from the QuickBird imagery and divided into separate sets of calibration and validation data. The effects of calibration data set size and the input metrics used on the regression tree results were also assessed. The approach resulted in a model with a significant R2 of 0.53 and an RMSE of 2.84 m. In addition, 84.6% of the stand height estimates were within the acceptable error for photo interpreted heights, as specified by the forest inventory standards of British Columbia. Furthermore, residual errors from the model were smallest for the stands that had larger mean heights (i.e., > 20 m), which aids in reducing error in subsequent estimates of biomass or volume (since stands with larger trees contribute more to overall estimates of volume or biomass). Estimated and manually interpreted heights were reclassified into 5-metre height classes (a schema frequently used for forest analysis and modelling applications) and compared; classes corresponded in 54% of stands assessed, and all stands had an estimated height class that was within ± 1 class of their actual class. This study demonstrates the capacity of VHSR panchromatic imagery (in this case QuickBird) for generating useful estimates of mean stand heights in unmonitored, remote, or inaccessible forest areas.  相似文献

We propose a biologically-motivated computational model for learning task-driven and object-based visual attention control in interactive environments. In this model, top-down attention is learned interactively and is used to search for a desired object in the scene through biasing the bottom-up attention in order to form a need-based and object-driven state representation of the environment. Our model consists of three layers. First, in the early visual processing layer, most salient location of a scene is derived using the biased saliency-based bottom-up model of visual attention. Then a cognitive component in the higher visual processing layer performs an application specific operation like object recognition at the focus of attention. From this information, a state is derived in the decision making and learning layer. Top-down attention is learned by the U-TREE algorithm which successively grows an object-based binary tree. Internal nodes in this tree check the existence of a specific object in the scene by biasing the early vision and the object recognition parts. Its leaves point to states in the action value table. Motor actions are associated with the leaves. After performing a motor action, the agent receives a reinforcement signal from the critic. This signal is alternately used for modifying the tree or updating the action selection policy. The proposed model is evaluated on visual navigation tasks, where obtained results lend support to the applicability and usefulness of the developed method for robotics.  相似文献

Productive wetland systems at land-water interfaces that provide unique ecosystem services are challenging to study because of water dynamics, complex surface cover and constrained field access. We applied object-based image analysis and supervised classification to four 32-m Beijing-1 microsatellite images to examine broad-scale surface cover composition and its change during November 2007-March 2008 low water season at Poyang Lake, the largest freshwater lake-wetland system in China (> 4000 km2). We proposed a novel method for semi-automated selection of training objects in this heterogeneous landscape using extreme values of spectral indices (SIs) estimated from satellite data. Dynamics of the major wetland cover types (Water, Mudflat, Vegetation and Sand) were investigated both as transitions among primary classes based on maximum membership value, and as changes in memberships to all classes even under no change in a primary class. Fuzzy classification accuracy was evaluated as match frequencies between classification outcome and a) the best reference candidate class (MAX function) and b) any acceptable reference class (RIGHT function). MAX-based accuracy was relatively high for Vegetation (≥ 90%), Water (≥ 82%), Mudflat (≥ 76%) and the smallest-area Sand (≥ 75%) in all scenes; these scores improved with the RIGHT function to 87-100%. Classification uncertainty assessed as the proportion of fuzzy object area within a class at a given fuzzy threshold value was the highest for all classes in November 2007, and consistently higher for Mudflat than for other classes in all scenes. Vegetation was the dominant class in all scenes, occupying 41.2-49.3% of the study area. Object memberships to Vegetation mostly declined from November 2007 to February 2008 and increased substantially only in February-March 2008, possibly reflecting growing season conditions and grazing. Spatial extent of Water both declined and increased during the study period, reflecting precipitation and hydrological events. The “fuzziest” Mudflat class was involved in major detected transitions among classes and declined in classification accuracy by March 2008, representing a key target for finer-scale research. Future work should introduce Vegetation sub-classes reflecting differences in phenology and alternative methods to discriminate Mudflat from other classes. Results can be used to guide field sampling and top-down landscape analyses in this wetland.  相似文献

This paper introduces a new open source, knowledge-based framework for automatic interpretation of remote sensing images, called InterIMAGE. This framework exhibits a flexible modular architecture, in which image processing operators can be associated to both root and leaf nodes of a semantic network, which accounts for a differential strategy in comparison to other object-based image analysis platforms currently available. The architecture, main features as well as an overview on the interpretation strategy implemented in InterIMAGE are presented. The paper also reports an experiment on the classification of landforms. Different geomorphometric and textural attributes obtained from ASTER/Terra images were combined with fuzzy logic to drive the interpretation semantic network. Object-based statistical agreement indices, estimated from a comparison between the classified scene and a reference map, were used to assess the classification accuracy. The InterIMAGE interpretation strategy yielded a classification result with strong agreement and proved to be effective for the extraction of landforms.  相似文献

We propose a method for automatic extraction and labeling of semantically meaningful image objects using “learning by example” and threshold-free multi-level image segmentation. The proposed method scans through images, each of which is pre-segmented into a hierarchical uniformity tree, to seek and label objects that are similar to an example object presented by the user. By representing images with stacks of multi-level segmentation maps, objects can be extracted in the segmentation map level with adequate detail. Experiments have shown that the proposed multi-level image segmentation results in significant reduction in computation complexity for object extraction and labeling (compared to a single fine-level segmentation) by avoiding unnecessary tests of combinations in finer levels. The multi-level segmentation-based approach also achieves better accuracy in detection and labeling of small objects.  相似文献

为了优化基于对象的存储设备(OSD)内对象的存储,该文提出了一种用于OSD中的智能化的对象文件系统SOFS,它是一个文件系统容器,可以包含多种基于不同应用的文件系统,目前包含了两种文件系统:通用对象文件系统和媒体对象文件系统,分别用于存储文档、网页等小对象和大的媒体对象。SOFS在Linux内核中的实现与ext2比较,结果显示,读写普通文档等小对象时,SOFS的性能高出ext2 大约10%,而读写大的媒体对象时,效率高出ext2 30%左右。  相似文献

随着应用的高速发展,性能高、安全性强的IP存储正成为网络存储领域的研究热点。本文针对这种情况,在OSD命令集的基础上,设计了一种基于iSCSI协议的专用对象存储安全系统(iSCSI-based Object Storage Security System,iOBS3)。借助iSCSI的块数据通道和OSD内置的安全策略,使得iOBS3同时具备块I/O的高速传输带宽和对象I/O的访问控制能力;通过在IP层加入IPSec协议,提高了iOBS3的传输安全性;在发起端和目标端同时采用零拷贝TCP机制,大幅度地提高了iOBS3的I/O带宽。实验结果显示,相对iSCSI,iONS3在保证安全性的同时,具有更高的传输速度。  相似文献
