High‐performance thermosets with tailored properties derived from methacrylated eugenol and epoxy‐based vinyl ester

A renewable chemical, eugenol, is methacrylated to produce methacrylated eugenol (ME) employing the Steglich esterification reaction without any solvent. The resulting ME is used as a low‐viscosity co‐monomer to replace styrene in a commercial epoxy‐based vinyl ester resin (VE). The volatility and viscosity of ME and styrene are compared. The effect of ME loading and temperature on the viscosity of the VE–ME resin is investigated. Moreover, the thermomechanical properties, curing extent and thermal stability of the fully cured VE–ME thermosets are systematically examined. The results indicate that ME is a monomer with low volatility and low viscosity, and therefore the incorporation of ME monomer in VE resins allows significant reduction of viscosity. Moreover, the viscosity of the VE–ME resin can be tailored by adjusting the ME loadings and processing temperature to meet commercial liquid molding technology requirements. The glass transition temperatures of VE–ME thermosets range from 139 to 199 °C. In addition, more than 95% of the monomer is incorporated and fixed in the crosslinked network structure of VE–ME thermosets. Overall, the developed ME monomer exhibits promising potential for replacing styrene as an effective low‐viscosity co‐monomer. The VE–ME resins show great advantages for use in polymer matrices for high‐performance fiber‐reinforced composites. 一种低功耗Cache设计技术的研究

低功耗、高性能的cache系统设计是嵌入式DSP芯片设计的关键。本文在多媒体处理DSP芯片MD32的设计实践中，提出一种利用读／写缓冲器作为零级cache，减少对数据、指令cache的读／写次数，由于缓冲器读取功耗远远小于片上cache，从而减小cache相关功耗的方法。通过多种多媒体处理测试程序的验证，该技术可减少对指令cache或者数据cache20％～40％的读取次数，以较小芯片面积的增加换取了较大的功耗降低。

Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy for Liver Disease

Continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) is becoming the treatment of choice for critically ill patients with acute renal failure around the world. In particular, CRRT is used for patients with combined liver and acute renal failure, because they are often hemodynamically unstable. The question arises as to whether the use of CRRT should be extended to those patients with acute and chronic liver failure who do not have dialysis-dependent renal failure. CRRT could potentially allow some detoxification by removing water-soluble toxins and also allow regulation of intravascular volume and correction of sodium and other electrolyte and acid–base imbalances. By providing homeostatic control, CCRT could potentially help support patients by bridging to liver transplantation and managing those who eventually recover with hepatic regeneration.     

An accurate and practical buffer allocation model for the buffer cache based on marginal gains

A new dynamic buffer allocation strategy based on the notion of marginal gains is presented for the buffer cache that is used by the operating system to store frequently accessed disk blocks in main memory, and the performance of the proposed strategy is compared with those of previous allocation strategies. In the proposed strategy, marginal gain values are predicted by exploiting functions that approximate the expected number of buffer hits per unit time. Experimental results from both trace-driven simulation and an actual implementation in the FreeBSD operating system show that the proposed strategy accurately predicts the marginal gain values for various workloads resulting in significantly improved buffer hit ratios.
