New Development in the Application of Solid State Fermentation

The last decade an unprecedented increase in solid state fermentation(SSF) and SSF systems have been witnessed. They were termed as a low-technology system, but now they are used to make the products of low cost and high value-added. SSf processes offer potential advantages in bioremediation and biological detoxification of hazardous and toxic compounds. With the development of biotechnological innovations, especially in the area of enzyme and fermentation technology, many new avenues have opened for the application of SSF. This paper discusses more recent development of products and resources in the area of SSF.
