Toxicological aspects of scale preventative agents used in desalination equipment for drinking water

To produce drinking water from sea water by distillation, sulfuric acid and polyphosphates have been applied as scale preventative agents for a long time. For a few years now other agents as polyacrylates, polyphosphonates etc. are in use too.
