Expert Systems in Chemical Engineering – Examples in the Configuration of Agitators. The structuring of relevant knowledge and its formalized representation in a knowledge base is the main prerequisite in employing an expert system. The present paper discusses functionality and conception of expert systems and explains their advantages over conventional programming. Furthermore, the structure of an expert system for the configuration of agitators in food processing is presented.
