Abstract:1 INTRODUCTION Dimethyl Carbonate (CH3OCOOCH3, DMC) is chemical with methyl group (CH3-) and carbonyl group (-CO-) in its molecule. Dimethyl carbonate can be used to replace the acutely poisonous dimethyl sulfate and phosgene as methylating and carbonylating agent in the synthesization of many useful organic substance, such as aromatic polycarbonates (high performance thermoplastic resins), monoisocyanates (pharmaceuticals and pesticides intermediates), diisocyanates(monomers for polyurethane elastomers) and other organic carbonates (pesticides) 1]. The relatively high solubility power of dimethyl carbonate affords its employment as a solvent replacing xylene, for paints 2]. Oxygen content in dimethyl carbonate is about 53%, there makes it as an additive to internal combustion engine fuel for minimizing pollution 3].
