Abstract:Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) were used to improve the tensile properties of an epoxy resin and its continuous carbon fiber (CF) reinforced composites. Micrography picture showed that CNTs has been well incorporated into the composites, and made the fracture cross section more rougher through sharing the stress. For the CNT/epoxy composite, the tensile strength and modulus both increased upon the CNT addition, and at a CNT volume concentration of 2.0%, the maximum enhancements in the tensile strength and modulus were achieved as 26.7% and 21.5%, respectively. For the CNT‐CF/epoxy composite, the maximum enhancement in tensile strength was achieved as 11.6% at a CNT volume concentration of 1.0% and then decreased with the further increase of the CNT addition, but the tensile modulus increased monotonically upon the CNT addition.
