| Abstract: | The concept and main characteristics of the intelligent optical network are intr oduced and the development and evolution of ASON are overviewed. Progress made b y leading standardization groups and organizations and some key projects for dev eloping optical networks in different countries are analyzed. It is concluded th at the intelligentization will be one of the development trends of optical netwo rks and ASON will represent the future of optical networks. |
