Abstract:The effect of AlCl3 on hydrolysis of microcrystalline cellulose in high temperature liquid water(HTLW) was investigated.The HPLC results show that AlCl3 can accelerate the hydrolysis of cellulose and reduce the hydrolysis temperature.It can also promote the yield of glucose within short residence time.By adding 0.01% AlCl3,the conversion of cellulose was increased to 73.86% at 260 ℃,(5.2±0.2) MPa and 1 min while the maximum yield of glucose(47.73%) was approached.As an acid catalyst,AlCl3 can inhibit the isomerization and the retro-aldol condensation of glucose which can influence the product distribution of the hydrolysate.XRD and SEM analysis showed that AlCl3 can destroy the crystal structure of cellulose effectively.
