Oxide ion concentration dependence of the potential of stabilized zirconia-air electrode in a molten LiF-KF system

Abstract:This paper describes oxide ion concentration dependence of the potential of stabilized zirconia-air electrode in a molten LiF-KF eutectic system at 823–973 K. Experimental results can be explained well by the theoretical equation of the zirconia-air electrode potential,
derived by the authors.As an example of the application of the equation, solubility product of Al2O3 in a molten LiF-KF eutectic system has been determined to be (1.0–3.0) × 10−17 at 823 K, by the use of the zirconia-air electrode.
