Abstract: | The overall fracture toughness of poly(butylene terephthalate) as well as plane stress and plane strain contributions have been measured as a function of rate from 5 × 10?2 to 5 × 103 in/min. A pronounced sample thickness dependence in Kc is observed over this range. Poly(butylene terephthalate) appears to exhibit excellent resistance to low speed crack propagation with internal voiding providing an effective crack blunting mechanism. |
