Abstract: | The sorption capacity of the brown alga Fucus vesiculosus for copper, cadmium, lead and nickel was investigated. Metal sorption yields were modified using different kinds of pretreatment reagents: HCl, CaCl2, formaldehyde, Na2CO3 and NaOH. The Langmuir isotherm was applied to both the non‐treated and all treated biomass tests. Calcium chloride was the only chemical that improved the maximum sorption capacity of the biomass.
