An applied finite element displacement analysis of a simple integral construction vehicle body shell

Abstract:A finite element idealization of a full-size vehicle body shell was created and used to predict underfloor displacement patterns due to beam loadings, which were compared with experimentally measured values. Modified representations of roof and floor construction details were used to highlight their influence on the structural behaviour of the vehicle. Also comparative studies were made using “assumed stress” and “assumed displacement” element formulations.
