Characteristics of a Thermionic Laser Radiation-to-Electricity Converter

Abstract:A simplified 1D model is developed to calculate and analyze the characteristics of a thermionic converter for converting laser radiation into electricy. The dependences of the generated voltage and power and the efficiency on the parameters of the energy converter and the optical discharge burning in the interelectrode gap of the energy converter are calculated. It is shown that the efficiency of conversion of the laser radiation absorbed in the plasma of the optical discharge into electricity in an optimized energy converter is ~10%.
