| Abstract: | The improvement of medical health care during the past years has led to an increased use of implants. The requirements placed on implant materials are determined by medical progresses and biological demands. Metallic biomaterials are the dominating group of materials for use as highly tension loaded implants. Among the metals, titanium and specially developed titanium alloys have an outstanding position due to their combination of strength, elasticity and biocompatibility. In addition it is possible to develop “tailored materials” by functional coating the metals or by the production of composite materials. |
