| Abstract: | Hydrogenation of commercial groundnut oil refining soapstock over nickel catalyst is described. The extent of hydrogenation depended on the catalyst concentration present. Residual dienes were greatly altered, and dimers were also formed. With sufficient catalyst, trans monoenes arose from both dienes and cis oleate, but with insufficient catalyst, only from the latter. During the later stages of hydrogenation, cis and trans monoenes each appeared to equilibrate independently to the same isomer distribution. |
