Behavior of magnesia bricks in furnaces for the production of manganese alloys

Conclusions The application of dense magnesia bricks contributes to increased durability of the lining in metal manganese and manganese slag producing furnaces.The life of magnesia brick linings with an 11 to 13% porosity amounts to 45 days.The employment of large-size bricks hightens the resistance of the furnace bottom.Periclase-spinel brick proved unsuitable in the production of manganese slag.It is suggested that bricks with a porosity of 14 to 16% be tested for the purpose of determining optimal porosity.
