Abstract: | In this paper, a reliability-dependent failure rate model is used to predict the reliability of a cutting tool subject to flank wear. This model proposes an algebraic relation between the failure rate and the reliability (AE model). It involves two decay factors. One is the so-called embedded decay factor which deals with the intrinsic characteristics of cutting behaviour (involving the material properties and the geometry of cutting tool and workpiece), the other is the process-dependent decay factor which relates to the cutting process. Experimental results show that the proposed model is satisfactory for describing the reliability of a cutting tool under flank wear. |
