Abstract: | A national survey of state psychological association referral services was conducted via a 23-item questionnaire. Thirteen state associations (25%) have a current referral service; another 25% have large regional services within the state or a referral service under consideration. Data on membership procedures, feedback, legal issues, fees, and promotional activities are reported. States in which a referral service is currently in operation tend to be geographically small states with high population densities and high psychological association memberships. States in which no referral service is in operation or proposed and in which no large regional referral service is in operation tend to be middle-sized states with low population densities and low state association memberships. Recommendations for the development and maintenance of a referral service are given. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved) |
