Construction of 1.0 Mt/a Dimethyl Ether Project Kicked off at Jiutai Company in InnerMongolia

Construction of the 1.0 Mt/a dimethyl ether （DME） project owned by Jiutai Energy Company was kicked off in Ordos, Inner Mongolia. This project is a joint venture project signed between Linyi municipal government of Shandong province and Ordos municipal government with construction sponsored by Shandong Jiutai Chemical Co. This dimethyl ether project has been listed in the State plan for tackling key problems in the “Tenth Five-Year Plan” period by the State Science and Technology Ministry as a project for study and demonstration of key clean automotive fuel commercialization technique. The technologies for adoption of dimethyl ether as clean energy, substitution of DME for Freon, combustion of fuel blends containing DME, and development and utilization of DME downstream products jointly developed in collaboration with Xi＇an Jiaotong University are matured and are ready for market application.

Gansu Provincial Development and Reform Commission has officially approved the proposal made by Huating Coal and Power Joint-Stock Company on investing 2.731 billion RMB in construction of a 600kt/a methanol unit, commissioning of which will be realized two years later. This unit after startup will consume 1.2 Mt/a of coal. Starting 2008 this company also plans to invest 3.9 billion RMB to form a production capacity involving 1.2 Mt/a= of ethanol and 300 kt/a of PP.
