Abstract: | Classified the response styles of 8 counselors, all functioning at or above minimally facilitative levels of core conditions, as confrontive or speculative. Estimates of client depth of self-exploration were made by counselors, clients, and trained raters. The data indicate that (a) clients perceived greater self-exploration than counselors or raters, (b) confrontive counselors perceived greater self-exploration than speculative counselors, and (c) neither raters' nor clients' estimates of self-exploration differed across speculative or confrontive counselors.
