Abstract: | Surface Alloying of Tool Steels with Carbides by Laser or Electron Beam Melting. It is shown how the properties of tool steels can be improved by laser or electron beam melting and alloying of the surface. Various techniques can be employed depending on the base material and intended application. Crack free surface treated layers 1-1.5 mm thick can be produced. The hardness profiles, structures and oxidation resistance of these layers are compared for the different techniques and materials. |
