Natural gemstones which exhibit a fine,brilliantined chatoyant or asterismal optical effect are comparatively rare and hence they are highly valuable.Cat's-eye is the name applied to gemstones on which surface shifting light bands seem to move about when the stones are turned.Thus,this optical effect is called "Chatoyant" and it is beet observed in polished,spherical stones.This paper describes the methods for manufacturing cat's-eye gems being of the optical effect of single or multilined chatoyaney or asterism by using non-crystalline optical materials.These artificial gemstones are characterized by all kinds of properties simular to natural ones and they are illustrated from microstructure of materials.
