Abstract:The purpose of this paper is to disc uss the feasibilityexperimental research of the power and efficiency augmentati on of a horizontal axis wind turbine system by adding small flaps to its blades.Th e experiment of lift enhancement of a two-dimensional airfoil with a small trai ling edge flap was conducted at a low-speed,closed-loop wind tunnel at Shantou University.In experiment,the angles of attack varied from 0° to 40° and the h eights of the flaps were 1.0%,1.5%,2.0%,2.5% of the airfoil chord respective ly.The effects o f different deflective angles (45°,90°,135°)of the trailing edge flap were compared respectively.The lift and drag coefficients were determined from the su rface pressur e distributions,which were measured under all tested conditions.All results indi cated:all tested flaps could increase the lift coefficient and the larger flaps produced successively larger increments,though not proportionally.The Gurney fla p shows a superior performance compared with other angles trailing edge flaps.
