Evolution Towards Next Generation Telecommunication Backbone Networks

First the paper described a great capacity challenge for new era. Then, the paper analyzed the major impacts of IP traffic on transport network structures and made comparisons among different network structures and shown the nature trend towards OTN. Next the paper introduced categories of optical cross-connect equipment and main developments. Finally, convergence of IP layer and optical layer and two evolution structures were also presented.
