| Abstract: | The changes of characteristics of the anaerobic activated sludge in the anaerobic attached microbial film expanded bed (AAFEB) reactor and their relation to the reactor performance were studied. During the experiment of 320 days, the characteristics, namely, bacteria in the sludge, thickness of the biofilm, the sludge concentration, the maximum specific acid production rate, the maximum specific methane production rate, the dehydrogenase activity and the coenzyme F420. and the performance were measured. Based on these grounds, the relation between the characteristics and the performance was analyzed and the reason of the performance degeneration was discussed. |
