At present,the total capacity of trimellitic anhydride in the world is about 230,000t/a, with output of 165,000 t/a and total consumption about 160,000t/a. In 2003, the capacity of trimellitic anhydride in China was about 41,000 t/a,with output of 16,000t and total consumption about 13,500t. In China, trimellitic anhydride is mainly used in production of powder coating, resin curing agent, trimellitic ester based plasticizer, polyimide insulating varnish and modified alkyd resin, and a few for cinefilm flocculant, airplane motor lube and trimellitic ester sodium salt anionic surfactant. It is forecasted that the total consumption of trimellitic anhydride in China will reach about 17,500t in 2005.
