Abstract: | Fracture data on polymethyl methacrylate, polyvinyl chloride, polyacetal and polypropylene in both tension and bending are given for a range of temperatures using unnotched specimens. It is concluded that all the failures occur at the gross crazing or yield stress and are thus stress-controlled, and the flaw size has little effect. The propagation behaviour of the flaws under these conditions is discussed in terms of stability criteria. |
