Abstract: | Simulated annealing provides an algorithm for arranging measured wiggler field errors to minimize a “cost function” characterizing errors in electron trajectories and other aspects of magnetic field quality. Rocketdyne has most recently demonstrated the efficacy of this approach in the design and fabrication of a pure permanent magnet prototype small-gap undulator for BNL. The cost functions developed for this purpose are derived and the results presented |
