Notes on terrorism and data processing

Terrorism relies on mindless violence to achieve its objectives. Historically it has been employed as a conscious strategy to retain or achieve power by both purportedly legitimate governmental bodies and their opponents. Modern terrorists have begun to refocus their efforts on disruption of the social fabric. Terrorists have failed to recognize the role of DP in perpetuating the social/economic structure, but there have been isolated acts of terrorist violence directed at computer facilities since February 1969. There are many vulnerabilities in DP that terrorists could exploit for their own ends.
