Based on the experience in architectural style planning of New Xiamen Railway Station District,the article discusses the necessity and possibility of architectural style planning for urban new district.Architectural style planning for urban new district is facing the problem of weak matrix gene.The unity of architectural style is hard to be self organized by matrix gene without strong outside intervention. Urban planning becomes the focus of conflicts in architectural style control.For the complexity of architectural style,it points out the research on spatial structure and classification needs to be enhanced. As for the regulation of building elements,guidelines and advice are recommended.
