Abstract: | Minimization of transition slabs in continuous casting operations is critical for optimum quality and productivity. The number of these slabs is closely related to the tundish geometry and operating practice. Therefore, tundish flow and mixing with various tundish configurations and different tundish operating levels are investigated through computer simulation. Residence time distributions and transitional concentration profiles are predicted. Finally, practical operations for a grade change to reduce transition slabs are assessed. |
