Abstract: | The emf in the electrode-ground circuit is considered during downtime, when the ore-roasting furnace is switched off. The emf is found to be related to temperature equalization between uniform electrode-melt and lining-melt contacts (the Peltier effect); and also to the temperature gradients in the materials (the Thomson effect). The emf may be used to create a fundamentally new method of assessing the temperature at the electrode’s working surface and the thermal state of the bath during downtime. |
