Ten subjects (5M + 5W) have been instructed to carry for 15 min carton boxes from 7-5 to 40 kg over a distance of 10 m at the work rate of 90 to 180 trips hour^?1 Heart rates were continuously measured by telemetry at rest and during work. The results show a highly significant relationship between heart rate increases and the total load carried. When the different weights are expressed as a percentage of the lean body mass, there is no difference between men and women in heart acceleration
